Ok, I put the truck in the garage where I could get some light on the situation. If it is the actuator and I take it out will the gear oil drain out when it is removed if so where and how much oil do I replace it with. The black wire is shown as hard wired to ground g105. A transmission tech put it on a lift with front axel engaged but did not get any response from the tcase. Oct 29, 2011 check the solenoid on the front differential. Jerry Some things I forgot to mention. This can be done at any speed, and the front axle will lock automatically. You could also check the continuity of the actuator. The front wheels are not locked in as far as I can tell. Next take a pair of needle nose pliers and remove the retaining rings around the old hub. They may have a book on hand, if not they should be able to get one from another branch that will help you. I'll assume it is the actuator, if the plug to the actuator is getting 12 volts when in 4wd.
When I swtch to 4lo the 4lo light flashes and only that light. Before shifting into low range you must either stop or slow down to at least 3 mph to prevent grinding gears. The selector button blinks when pushing Hi or Low but doesn't lock in. I got home and decided since my driveway was a little slick I'd put it into 4wd hi from a stand still and make my way up the driveway on a side note, I haven't used 4wd hi in a while. I just bought this truck a few weeks ago. That causes the lurching problem in tight corners.
Was it the right axle for the truck , did you feel the splines slide into the pig? On the full size, the front actuator is electric, not vacuum. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 6. As stated above, they may have pinched a wire and caused it to short. I also removed the t-case fuse per the instructions and switched the truck on and off 5 times. The 2wd light will flash very dimly and then about a second later all three will flash one time 2wd, 4h, and 4L there is about a five second interval between the flashs. I can bearly see the 2wd flash before all three light flash. I did this and nothing. The failure and current mileages were 54,000. I am getting power to the actuator but it is not engaging. Did you install one of these or just replace with original type? We traced the problem to the front diff actuator - it was shot. Installed it and same thing, would not work.
