The current mileage was 95,908 and failure mileage was 93,103. You can drive the car to the store or where-ever but when you get back into the car it won't start again. After all the complaints I've read I'm afraid to spend anymore money on this problem. If not blown fuse what next? So I got on my tablet and Googled 2000 Chevy Impala not starting. I baby this car and keep it clean and up to date but I need a specialist that knows 3800 series 2 motor like the back of their hand. I have a feeling it is not the ignition switch nor a starter.
Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. This can be a safety issue for many people. At first I thought because of the cold weather maybe I possibly may have gotten some water in gas. I have tried numerous times to fix the problem with the car. The independent mechanic made several unknown repairs but the failure persisted.
The following day I went to the store. Should you find it uncomfortable overhauling the starter, it may be to your advantage to simply replace the starter assembly. Started fine for 2 weeks and it's been happening ever since. I usually put another battery on jumper cables attached to the cars battery so it does not run down and die before the system re-arms. A bad alternator can run down a new batter in a very short time. So I bought a code reader and when it stalls while driving I reset codes and starts right up! When I got in my car it would not crank.
I thought this switch was the neutral safety switch. Does that passlock bypass I read about work? The vehicle was not repaired. I would like to get rid of the Passlock or disable it. Maybe this model is a Lemon?? Initially, it was suspected the battery was discharged and the battery was charged for twenty minutes. I have switched keys and that worked for a time, but depending on how it is feeling it may or may not start the next day or the next trip. I have done some investigating and many Impalas have this problem. .
Consumer writes in regards to water enters passenger compartment through the cabin air filer. Try giving it a sharp tap with a hammer as this is often enough to loosen contact points inside. The car has a problem with starting and the security module. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was a fuel issue. I disconnected, jumped the wires and turn the key and still no power at small terminal on solenoid. The manufacture was notified of the failure.
Turns out he was right. Tow truck came and jump started it fine. That made sense so I ordered one and took the whole dashboard apart to put the damn thing in It really wasn't that hard, just a pain in the ass. In addition, the contact stated that she had tried to get to her location and the vehicle stalled. I tried jumping it off but it still wouldn't start. I pickup a Haynes repair manual just now, but I havn't look to see if it's cover in the manual, yet.
My friend thinks it might be the fuel pump, I can't afford that and I say maybe the air filter. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection. I'm a college student that has enough trouble paying school loans. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Thank you for using FixYa. It came back with a ignition switch failure.
The failure mileage was unavailable. It also has the movable steering column. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start and the security warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. Multiple times where the car would stall or not start. The wife complains but she does come and picks me up.
Good luck and kind regards. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the key emitted from the ignition switch. The fuel pump is brand new and sometimes it clicks when I turn the key and sometimes don't. The vehicle was left with the dealer for repairs. It was almost like the battery was dead but I had full power to all my lights and radio. I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow, because the car is outside and it's pouring out. Then two months later same thing happened so I changed the coolant temperature sensor and wires which then again cured the problem and the car was wonderful.
Runs for 2 seconds and kills itsself. It should stop flashing after about ten to twenty minutes. Please someone help i am a student without much money and don't want to put to much more in this if it is a piece of junk. The contact stated that she had to pull over. The vehicle would completely shut off and fail to restart. It is also a problem in the 2002 and 2003 models of the chevy Impala.
