The 3 Series models really are gems, fine compact. I've been looking at some 330i's with about 80k-90k miles. I put the car in reverse and it would not go into reverse. The seats are comfortable and the interior has held-up really well all things considered; we pile dogs in mastiffs and pitbulls and messy neighborhood kids. Hoping to do a lot of the work myself. The engine top drains into the trunk causing the trunk to fill with water poor drain design , because we leave the car parked outside now.
And the 5 Series was pick No. And of course manual mode is fun. I wouldn't hesistate to buy the car you talked about. There were no warning signs that indicated that something could be wrong with the car. Disregarding whether the transmission fluid was changed or not, do these transmissions last? A band beaks and the reverse gear is broken. After some research online it seems the 2001 330I power train is a common failure with no prior warnings even with all maintenance done to the vehicle. I am handy and plan to do almost all maintenance and repairs myself.
While searching the internet, I found that this is a very common failure for this transmission model, and was thus led to this website to file a complaint. From what I gather this transmission commonly has this failure. The audio is ok- if i wanted a better sound quality i would not have purchased a convertible. That tells me that they are aware that the material they installed in my vehicle was inadequate. If you find one that you like, go for it.
Now just a few days ago the car stopped driving in reverse. Gas mileage is tolerable, about 26mpg hwy and 15mpg city. They have redesigned the clutch drum, to move the snap ring away from the drum's edge and constructed the drum of stronger material and an increased of the drums thickness. I had just parked the car approximately 2 hours earlier. I wanted to keep the X5, so I asked my salesperson at the dealership to let me know when an older model 3series gets traded in.
Everything works great, including tranny - smooth, crisp shifts - it seems to know exactly when I want it to up- and down-shift in Sport Mode. Noticed online it is a very common problem. I am assuming that they think it is replace upon failure. I have no problem with AutoWeek's first-place winner. Hence I went and bought the car from this private owner. I will replace with the urethane variety and second I see the oil pan is wet. They have modified the materials in the newer drums to alleviate the problem.
No reverse doesn't have anything to do with changing tranny fluid. The bigger concern with auto trannies in my opinion is the no reverse problem. Could just be a bad plug or maybe a gasket. And I won a lot of trophies with this car. First part was just a drain and fill without pan removal, this exchanged about 4 quarts.
A joy to drive; the steering is on point; car manuevers perfectly, and extremely responsive. The 2001 330 ci Convertible is the perfect car for me. I performed a two part change to ensure most of the fluid was exchanged. But now I drive it as an everyday car, and I couldn't be happier with the great performance of this vehicle, it has got a lot of power, good breaking, and just a joy to drive. And what does that normally cost? Then you'll be set for years of enjoyment. This is a safety issue and a recall is warranted.
The engine roars to life and makes you feel like you are controlling a wild animal, but has the type of controls that just about anyone could handle. The car has the zf5hp19 transmission which seems to have the common problem of the D-G clutch drum failing. Tons of power from the 3-liter straight-6. Disregarding whether the transmission fluid was changed or not, do these transmissions last? As I have been informed the most common problem with the reverse is failure of the D clutch drum, because the snap ring comes off of the drum, after that what happens is different on each transmission. Suppose I was 100S of miles away or if I was in a position where I need to use reverse to get out of harms way and it did not work. Now the car has 64K miles and I took it to the dealer.
