Be sure to buy a new gasket for the thermostat when you purchase the thermostat yes, they should sell them together, but often they don't! The failure mileage was 96,000. The engine began to overheat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they replaced the head gasket. Is there air in the line? Drain the coolant, then disconnect the lower hose from the elbow and take out both bolts, and the thermostat is revealed in its 'well'. We were told by the dealer that the previous repair, which was done at another dealer, did not correct the problem because they had failed to notice the head gasket seals which were leaking and led to the intake gasket failure. I added another relay so I can turn the right fan on high speed myself, instead of running a switch inside I ran the trigger wire for the relay to the fog light relay power, so when I when I'm in town and the temp gauge approaches the halfway mark I just hit the fog lamp switch I think around 210f using a temp gun , fan comes on and it hasn't been over half since when driving around slow in town on a 90+f day. The lady told me to submit a claim.
I have seen this happen. Yes these housings can break or distort if over tightened. Maybe this is something we need to make Buick aware of and responsible for. Do this till you have only coolant coming out of the bleader and no air. Then starts all over again.
Jan 28, 2016 Sounds like you may have a head gasket leak. When driving long distances it's fine, but when in town making short stops, it moves to hot. Now, I have been told the transmission cooling lines are leaking. We took it back to the dealership and they said it was a sensor and replaced it. We are now being told that it has a blown head gasket. I have had an on going problem with the car overheating and no ac. I hope this has been helpful.
To its credit Buick is helping with the tab ended up of paying 400 out of pocket. But what good is a thermostat that leaks? So the oil leak was a mystery. I would have done better to trade the thing in and take a loss. When coolant runs out and no air close bleeder and check radiater again make sure its full and your done. I may need a tune up now which I will be getting soon.
Wheel bearing, window motors etc. Roll the engine forward is to take off the engine dog bones, put gear in neutral, attach a pulling strap to the engine and hoist and roll it until you gain access. Remove the nuts from the rear of the front floor console. My computer has been replaced 6 months after purchasing it after being unable to clear itself of the codes. Coolant system has a small leak somewhere, only big enough to let steam out. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Air is bad is water system.
Thermostat, radiator, among other things were replaced. Then in August of 2008 a radiator hose needed to be replaced. The tip off is that the housing will be bigger than the housing at the end of the other hose and will be semicircular to a … ccomodate the shape of the thermostat. Top rad hose gets warm. Then in June of 2008 the thermostat needed to be replace. I stopped the engine and went to class.
It was not hot, so we took the lid off and coolant started spewing out of it. I have receipts for all repairs but no I do not have the old parts. Once these parts have been replaced, have the cooling system pressure tested to ensure that no more leaks exist. Alittle heat from the blower. I have come to hear this model has this as a universal problem. We were first told that we just needed our flushed. The contact started the ignition and the temperature gauge displayed a hot level reading with the illumination of the coolant warning indicator.
Dec 22, 2017 It happened to my 2003 last year. Then in September of 2008 the intake manifold and gaskets had to be replaced. Being it appears from your post the intake gasket was changed I'm hoping it was the lower intake gasket then I would suspect the thermostat. One should be on the thermostat housing and the other should be located above the water pump. I have had the ac replaced on the vehicle, the temp gauge, the thermostat, the water-pump, 2 blown head gaskets, the fuel sensor, anti lock brake sensor and the fuel pump. One is to do it while the engine isn't running, the other is while the engine is running and starting to get warm.
