The transfer case should then change from 4-wheel drive high to low. It also causes a relay to ground one of two solenoids that cause vacuum lines to activate an actuator which engages the front differential.
Check to see if you have an extra hose going down to each front wheel. May 24, 2009 if you can reach the blower motor, it could be a worn out carbon brush of the blower motor. Try not to drive too much like that. The vacuum should alternate hoses when shifted and the pressure should be equal although it is surprisingly not a strong pull. If that doesn't work, use a scanner to check for codes.
If it's anything like my 97. If either of these do not work, your 4X4 won't work. I went in, and grabbed the same service guy, and showed him my receipt for the part I just bought, and his quote for over 800 dollars. Mine were rubbing a bit on the passengers side wheel well so check there. The spring should push the gears in, without the vac line on.
This got gradually worse over time and it would take longer and longer for it to disengage and the 4x4 light to go off. Personally, I would say that the solenoid is probably ok if the 4X4 light stays on all the time. On second examination of 4wheel low, I found that it is not engaging. Engage 4x4 and probe the red ground wire to the engage solenoid closest solenoid to the fender. He even couldn't find it. This system would fail just when when you need it.
If the front drive shaft is turning, your transfer case is fine and engaged. Well you made a General Motors family out of us , you must be real proud of yourselves. Could they have done something then? I have the exact same setup as you. The 4X4 works with two systems - the shifter on the floor manually engages the transfer case. If it will work on high, you have a bad resistor for the fan motor. You might have to pull it in four wheel and check to see if the vacuum pod is engaging the shift lever on the axle.

I could not find out what the problem was.
I'm thinking the problem I had 2 seasons ago was corrected except the one solenoid that I did replaced ended up seizing 2 years later from water corrosion. You should hear the encoder motor on your transfer-case click to shift it out of 4 low. If the light goes on when you shift it in and off when you shift it out, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is just in your disengage solenoid. If the motor doesnt work at all at any fan speed, make sure the wiring harness that plugs into the motor under the hood is clean and tightly installed. This is what needs to be determined by examining the actuator and see if it is responding to heat change commands or not.
It this all good, then maybe your front differential needs help? Summary: I think the problem is a bad Transmission Range Sensor Switch. Just saying it could be more than a fuse. Rule out transfer case problems: This is easy - get someone to put your truck in 4X4 and roll forward while you peek underneath from the side. Your screen will then show some digits, but the unit is still unresponsive. The easiest way to trouble shoot mine was to get the truck in the air so you can rotate the fronts.
