Hello, I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra 3. The dealer performed a diagnostic test, verified the defect, and replaced the unit. While driving 30 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle had suddenly stalled without warning. The ignition would not start, but there was no significant loss of power. I talked with Nissan Canada 'customer care' and stated my issue and that I wanted the diagnosed problem fixed at their expense. The failure mileage was 93,348 and the current mileage was 94,800.
The contact referenced recall 04v230000 fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump but was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included. If the other end of that red wire is not connected to anything, remove it. The fuel pump was replaced. Hey my car cut out last week at a light and wouldn't start again. Repairs made: no repairs were made but I have looked for quotes on the repair and I keep getting different answers to the problem. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The technical bulletin describes the repair procedure needed to only replace the sending unit, and not the entire fuel pump. During the conversation wtih the repair shop not a Nissan dealership they mentioned that there was a Nissan recall out for the sending unit, and that I ought to be reimbursed by Nissan.

It may take 5-10 seconds with a steady pull for it to pop out. What was done to fix this problem did not.
If your fuel pump is no longer turning on or is failing, you may hear a whining noise or no noise at all from the fuel tank. Once you have it out, the pump itself is clipped into a bracket at the bottom of the tank. And please at least cover those bare wires with electrical tape. Then pull straight out it will take some force and it will feel like you may break the light, just make sure you are pulling straight back on the light, not at an angle. Brent Thanks for the reply Brent. The sending unit, well, I already broke a piece off of that and thought it would be easier to get in and out if I could break it. Took the car to get a reading of the codes and comes out has fuel pump sender unit which controls the fuel gauge. On older vehicles, a mechanical fuel pump driven by the camshaft was used. . At 40000 miles it is common for this model to have the fuel level sensor fail. The marks will facilitate realignment when you reassemble it.
