The vehicle was taken in for repair on October 1, 2007. I will try that tonight as the truck has been sitting for about a week now seems when it sits to it has a better chance It will act up. The next day, the speedometer was acting erratic again. It really doesnt seem like a fuse is bad since the cluster eventually turns on but the cold def effects the stepper motors i have experienced that. So I am having it fixed for almost 600 dollars with no help from gm.
Can someone elaborate how this works? The instrument cluster has been acting up, when starting the truck sometimes the cluster will power up like it should other times it wont power up at all until about 30 seconds of driving then it powers up as it should. While idling at a stop sign, the speedometer would display 160 mph. The dealer stated that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. While driving, the speedometer would remain at zero. While driving approximately 65 mph under any conditions, the vehicle's odometer fails. They were called when I received the letter at 104k and now at 111k they can only apologize for the problem but not fix it under warranty. The issue started when the vehicle had 6k miles on it and it is getting worse.
The dealership attempted four repairs and it is not fixed. The consumer stated she was driving 55 mph. The failure began on September 27, 2007 and has been occurring intermittently. The current and failure mileages were 11,108. Received a letter from gm and due to the mileage they will not repair the cluster even though the vehicle is within the date range. The contact stated that the speedometer failed at various speeds. Only other option is the whole gauge is shot but that is usually very evident in that half goes and the other half works or just the reset button and info display doesn't work. That is pretty much widely available at aftermarket auto stores and will most likely fix the problem. The erroneous speed indication causes an issue when going too slow or too fast in traffic. I feel it is a safety issue but they do not. The mileage listed is not reasonable since they only allow 10k per year. Topics in this area contain discussion of door panels and headliners or the dash and carpet, trim, and seats.
This should be a recall since they knew of the problem and it has occurred enough to warrant sending out letters notifying the owners of a potential problem. However, the speedometer showed 100 mph. Consumer writes in regards to a speedometer failure. The current and failure mileages were 27,051. The failure occurs when the vehicle stops and starts. The contact would have to shut the vehicle off and restart it in order to make the speedometer work properly.
When it doesn't work - I at least get the glow plug light coming on and the E-Brake warning but nothing else. The speedometer would not function after driving 45 minutes when on cruise control. Okay, Im assuming it probably needs the cluster replaced. It happened on my wife's envoy and a code scan actually caught it becuase it was throwing interference for a few other lights on the dash and poped a code. It went on for a couple of days and then went back to normal. . .
