Use back-up wrench on power steering line to prevent line bending. If you notice any ticking or clunking noises, or the smell of oil burning, you may have other issues. I was driving from K. My son is an apprentice at Dodge and he just finished doing all the codes. Its most likely the oil pressure sending unit. The new sensor should have had some thread sealant already applied but make sure. Turned car off and immediately restarted and pressure was good! I had my truck on some trails, coming into the city after being out all day.
Mechanic finally said it would most likely require a new engine, as there are metal shavings now in the oil. Normally it will be located on one of the valve covers. So I have to start it a second time before it reads. The crankshaft sprocket is aligned with the dot and or paint marking on the sprocket between two plated timing chain links. Was in the middle of no where when the check gauge light came at a stop light. I have it at my shop that Im employed with, mech took quick look. I am in it about 1200 dollars and now I am back to loosing oil pressure again.
Have the new sensor ready to thread in as you will lose some oil out of the block once the old sensor is removed. Changed oil first to eliminate that as the cause. If not, let me know and I see if I can find one. Check your oil for water sometimes a bad intake gasket will let water in the oil. The crankshaft keyway must be clocked at 2:00. I took it to my mechanic who is an old and trusted friend. Left the engine running and drove away but gauge never showed pressure.
You ever heard of a Cummins with a rod knock, now that is loud!! Happened once more coming home. Now it actually shows more pressure then the old unit! Posted on Feb 13, 2009 Ah oh. Replaced it and now Im all ready to go again. The computer in turn sends that information to the gauge on your dashboard so that you can monitor it visually as you drive. He changed the unit and did an oil change and everything seemed fine. I listened for any odd thumping or raddle and since there was none I went on.
Another reason why Im not a fan of remote oil filter kits. For mine, it only acted up when it was very cold out like when air temp was around 0 F. Use the correct weight oil, and only add what is necessary to reach the full mark on the dipstick. . This is not right, we paid cash for the darned thing and it sits useless in our front yard. Thanks for the info guys, My truck only has 70K miles on it and stupid check gauge light kept coming on at idle.
Both engines were just over 100k and had aftermarket oil filters on them. Oct 02, 2009 Slide a large piece of cardboard under the truck after driving for ten minutes note in which area directly above the spot on the cardboard the oil is coming from then get under the vehicle with a drop light to look for the origin of the leak, if no leak is detected then it may be the engine is burning oil this could either be valve stem seals or broke or worn oil rings. I had the same trouble on my '01. After reading all these other complaints I think Dodge should pay us for our troubles and buy the truck back. If you still need to replace your oil pressure sensor or switch, visit O'Reilly Auto Parts for the right part for your repair. It's a 10 minute job that took me 20 because I had to use an adjustable wrench.
. He checked it out and said he thought the problem was just some crud got in the end of the oil sending unit. So does this mean the motors cooked? Its just asking for leaks and more points of failure. First time it will really get your attention!! It seems to do it more often when it is cold outside. If we have another cold morning I will check it to see if that was the culprit. What happened with mine was when i would just start to drive it after warming it up alittle id let off the gas to coast down a hill or come to a stop and the oil gauge would drop to 0 and the chack gauges light would go ballistic.
I also saw a couple Hemi's and 4. I've never had a problem with leaks with copper supply lines. He said we have to replace engine and showed me the problem. Posted on Oct 05, 2009 Hi, oil getting on a breather can indicate excessive crankcase pressure. Will definitely let you know if it fixes the problem. No oil leaks on mine but there is some rust on the threads and the block.
I hope this info helps. Turned off the engine immediately. Picked up the sensor today. The add mark usually means it is 1qt or less low. He also showed me the oil pump and th hole for picking up oil is way to small for this size engine.
Also do not overfill, as this is just as bad as under-filling. The oil pressure gauge showed 0. Not much at all if you have the new one ready to go in. For the most part, if the pulleys it rides on are grooved, the belt ribs ride on it, it the pulley is smooth, the back side rides on it. This seemed to fix the problem until I was on my way back and it started again.
