I have replaced 2 input shaft pilot bearings and one universal joint went out. The motor has been ticking for awhile now. I changed the oil every 3000 miles right up until the failure. I have always done all proper maint and baby it. Note dodge has 70,000 mile or 7 yr warranty on this engine. I was in town cruising about 40 mph.
Now I need another motor, not sure I want to purchase. I do change my oil every 3000 miles without fail. I changed the oil the night before the failure. I changed the oil using Valvoline Synpower oil and Dodge or Purolator filters every 3000 miles. After a half block I let up on the gas and the engine died again. Got the truck towed home and tried to turn engine over with a bar. I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions.
We purchase cars to safety and sell and we also take them apart and sell the parts. It has the Belt Diagrams you will need. Not sure what I'm going to find or how much it will cost but you can be sure that it will be cheaper than taking it in to someone else. I towed it to a mechanic who found out the number five cylinder had no compression. This could have been prevented, and my truck still driving if Dodge would have just fixed the damn problem when I took it to the in the first place.
I am trading in my blown Dodge Truck and getting a Ford. Approximately 9 months ago the lifter dropped out in the 6 cylinder. I stated to the service adviser that I have never had a problem out my radiator period. If you get it scanned at Auto Zone, they should be able to let you know which O2 has gone bad so as to not change all three. I observed that I never lost oil pressure, coasted down a highway off ramp, came to a stop and the engine died. And I hold my horses everywhere in a 2 horse bumper pull. I told them I did not want anything for free but felt the engine should not of went like that.
It is our baby and the only new car we have ever bought. They did nothing about this problem for the people that bought the truck with that motor according to the blogs that I have read no recalls. Jim answered about a year ago I just bought a 2008 Ram with a 3. Never went away and never got louder. I drove it around town for prolly 40 miles and then took it on the road. This is not the way to treat a good customer. This past weekend, the valve stem retaining clip gave way and dropped the valve.
You could always check the wire harness to the down stream O2 for corrosion. The quoted me a price for a Jasper replacement engine. Let up on the throttle and the engine died. I tried to put it in neutral and restart it. I'm a contractor and have built many homes and jobs with it. Couldn't see anything visibly wrong.

On October 11,2011, I took the truck back to Gossett and explained to the service advisor that the engine was vibrating the whole truck, when I stopped at a red light, he stated that this was normal, but he would have a service technician to check it out. I was driving down the highway and my truck felt like the engine was shaking or something like that so I l pulled off to the side of the road and took a look at my tires and engine compartment. I have been seriously close to major accidents several times. Took my truck to dealer under warranty at 65k miles for a tick. Started to hear and feel a rumble which felt like a rear tire going bad then the engine missed but then kept chugging awary.
Disconnect the the negative of the battery cable. No cracks in the dash. Ol gal starting to burn oil pretty good now, hate to see her go. I kept up with the maintenance of the truck. When the engine was pulled from the truck, the mechanics found that one valve spring snapped, the piston hit the valve and they found the metal shards in the cylinder and also in the intake. This has happened to me well over twenty times in the past year.
