The first seat belt latch was replaced in April of 2007; now, three years later, the air bag light is on again and the error code indicates the same issue, so I'm forced to replace the same part again. I have the installed one and another older one. The problem is that if the sensor does not believe the seat belt is fastened, the airbag will not deploy in a crash. However city vw tells me the air bags won't deploy due to the failure light being on and that the buckle has to be replaced. I've been informed this is not possible. I have had no luck for several years.
The indicator did not dim once the vehicle was in motion. The dealer charged a fee to do a diagnostic test. I have a 1970 beetle that needs a radio. Lift the opened hinge side up and slide out. The car was finally returned to me 2 weeks later with a new transmission but still no explanation for the airbag. My concern is that airbag may deploy unexpectedly and cause an accident to my family, besides the actual issue of not deploying properly.
