They say it will be under warranty. So, I got bit by the dreaded X-fer case issue yesterday. I can see the rear differential being lifetime oil, that only spins when slippage is detected. The gear lubricant inside gets deteriorated a lot faster and becomes sludge. As with all cars especially used sh t happens. It would smooth out thereafter.
Possibly due to overheating of fluid that turns to sludge for some reason? I've become a victim of the transfer case problem. Just seemed like only the front wheels were spinning. I have one on my 16 Colorado and like it a lot. Common problems are explosion of the unit and toxic fumes and locking up of the power train. Let the dealer do their job.
When I got to my parents house, I noticed a burning oil smell. I verified that only the front wheels were spinning. I guess I will be looking for another brand when the time comes. Could be a supplier issue, maybe a second tier supplier part that isn't built to spec. It does not necessarily rleate to the amount of miles on the vehicle because many have failed shortly after being purchased new. Not sure if it matters or not, but I've never towed anything before. The six-speed gearbox is well sorted, as it snaps off timely shifts without hesitation.
Took it to a tranny shop. I can tell you that one dealer in garden city that was supposed to do a trans flush on my 9 just put 3 quarts into the machine and then recycled the rest of the trans fluid that was in the car. Took it to a tranny shop. I am kind of confused? Suggested we go to the dealer. I know there's another hidden issue waiting to happen - expensive water pump replacement since it's sitting in between engine and transmission! Any help is greatly appreciated. First trip to the dealer, they repositioned the driveshaft.
Burning oil smell after the drive. The next day the dealer called back and said I need a new transfer case, I asked if they found a problem and was told yes, but the mechanic was tied up and the guy at the desk couldn't tell me exactly what they found. I guess I caught it early. Or will Mazda tell me that my transmission caused the transfer case to fail? I also have ripped leather on my drivers seat and a cracked side interior panel on the back, which is why I haven't invested the money in mine. However, Mazda refuses to fully cover part which most likely caused my transmission failure as well in August 2018. Believe me, Mazda and no manufacturer these days doesn't pay out that kind of warranty moolah if the issue isn't real and documentable.
A six-speed automatic with a manual mode is the sole transmission. I'm assuming you got to that 2mm difference by measuring the tread depth of the old tires you left on the front when installing new tires on the rear. That's why I was asking. I climbed underneath and took a closer look and decided it might be the transfer case that is leaking. I had the issue on my 2007. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the house. But on Sunday I tried to drive it and it sounded like nails were being crushed in the tranny.
After some research, this is a very common problem due to the design that Mazda has refused to acknowledge and recall for many years now. I asked the rep at the dealership what the root cause could've been and he stated that based on what the mechanic told him, the transfer case more than likely locked up and broke the transmission spline. Have put another 2,000 thus far without issue. When I looked it up on your website it says my car is in recall for airbags and lower control arm. I have front wheel drive only now. Had it looked at by two mazda dealers, once after the first winter and again just after a holiday snow storm in Maine. Inside, the second row can slide fore and aft by about 5 inches and the third row has enough legroom to handle adults on a short-term basis.
Mazda really should do something on this transfer case issue. Dealer called today and confirmed that the transfer case was failing. It increased and decreased with wheel speed and quit completely after the car warmed up, about 15-20 min. I am kind of confused? So my transfer case needs to be replaced. The odd thing is the car drives like it always does.
