The transmission seems to have gotten worse over time, and the reprogramming is just a band-aid that can mask it until it gets very severe. Runs fine in 3rd gear and up.
Tonight, I went to back it up and the reverse is gone. All of the above conditions will diminish and the customer will notice progressively better launch and smoother shifting within the first few hundred miles of mixed driving as clutch break-in occurs. But after the horrible service and treatment by Ford, I will never buy another!!!! So very disappointed in this car. Took to ford after recall letter fixed issue. I should have gone with one of my other choices Kia Soul, Escape, another Hyundai, etc. They will keep the car for 1 week. Shifting into R and attempting to back up only results in a motionless car with a revving engine.

Since when is it normal to have a transmission that sticks, grinds, changes gears incorrectly, and most dangerous of all rolls backwards when on an incline!? I had the same shudder from the transmission everyone is complaining about.

When it comes to your Ford Focus, you want parts and products from only trusted brands. As far as I am concerned Ford has deceptive business practices especially when I asked if there were any recalls with this particular vehicle. I feel your pain I was told 1000 miles. The horn has stopped working and the transmission problems have made the car impossible to drive. At this point the only thing that would make me happy would be for Ford to abandon the apocalyptically horrible Dual Clutch Transmission and replace it with one that actually functions reliably. Same problems everyone else is reporting I called the dealer and took it in numerous times.
I did have the car give me a problem in reverse today but I restarted and the car seems fine. I started experiencing transmission issues shortly thereafter, slipping clutch feel, hesitation when accelerating, jerkiness almost rear-ended a few other cars , loss of power, car rolling backwards and engine stalling going up hills I live in San Francisco! Its Real quiet when you open the doors. And take the service adviser on a test drive to try and duplicate the situation. . Of course Ford does have some issues with the tranny that need to be addressed but as my father said the people who have never driven manual transmissions are going to have to adjust their driving habits as well. When I called the dealership I was told I would be responsible for the cost because its not under warranty, even though I had the car there when it was under warranty. The Ford dealership where I bought the car is doing the repairs.
Twice now within a 24hr period, this car has gotten stuck in a low gear when at cruising speed, leaving me only able to barely push 20mph. I have been driving for over 30 years, I know how to drive. That car is a real fraud. Now it is over the3 36,000 mile warranty but I understand it is covered under the 60,000 mile power train warranty. When I finally took it to them me and my two toddlers were almost killed it traffic we were at a stand still so long that when it started moving again my car would not move just make the sounds like I was hauling butt.
After that fix the car started shuttering every time it was in reverse and bucked so hard on the highway one day I thought I had been rear-ended but the nearest car was several car lengths behind me. Ford called me and offered a rental car at no charge to re-repair the transmission stumbling on acceleration from a stop. Dealer has no clue what to do since no engine light or code. I absolutely love the rest of the car, even the tempermental Sync system but I am losing confidence in this transmission with every passing mile. It took multiple key cycles to get the vehicle to shift into gear. Sometimes it has a hard time changing gears. It scares me when I start to go its gonna stall its like it want go hardly for the first few seconds.
