A police report was filed. About 3 miles later I hit a red light, go to accelerate when it turns green, rpms shoot up to almost 5k and then it shudders and jerks into whatever infinite gear it was searching for. And if the fluid is dark, it is almost certain that you are overheating. When it happen the first time it, as a safety precaution it lower your power and you have to pull off and wait. Despite its facelift that mimicks the look of the much-better Grand Cherokee, the Compass is mediocre. Very disappointed and dissatisfied customer.
I would call Chrysler and report them even if they do refund the money. I recently like this week brought it there and they said it was due to my tires being different sizes and the front more warn, and my battery had bad cold crank amps. The contact was unsure if the parking brake was engaged. It freaked me out while driving home. I am considering filing a class action lawsuit, actually. If you search the internet about this issue you will find many complaints. Always going about 75-80 when the transmission light comes on and forcefully slows us to 40 and stops accelerating.
At least so far it is working. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The transmission is not safe; could potentially cause an accident. It requires a specific dipstick that does not come with the vehicle. And with the airbag module not replaced yet by a different recall, it makes it more dangerous if the vehicle stalls in traffic, then a car hits us and no airbag deploys. Turned off vehicle and restarted.
If it comes on, it has come on for a reason. I was told not to park under trees and to open the sunroof and clean or vacuum out the drains every so often. The majority of road accidents involve the vehicle rolling over many times. So far so good after about 100 miles, cost me 11 dollars. Over heated after getting an Oil change at the dealership. Yes it was the ideal vehicle for all of us!! If it was hot I would just keep the Jeep at 72 mph and it wouldn't happen.
As soon as the car was put on the flatbed tow truck, all you could see was transmission fluid all over the ground. The engine is noisy, lacks punch and the continuously variable transmission accentuates its unpleasant growl. I bought the extended warranty on it from my dealership but they won't fix it at their dealership so I have to take it to a Jeep Dealership and they won't get me in until a month from now. Despite its facelift that mimicks the look of the much-better Grand Cherokee, the Compass is mediocre. Limited test bed here but maybe???? I was stopped at a stop light at night far away from my home waiting for it to turn green. Got the Oil changed 3 months ago.
Let us pray that traffic breaks enough for us to get some air flowing over the radiator so that engine temperature needle will go down just a little bit. If u search online in regards to overheating you will find several owners who had same problems 3 out of 5 stars by Local Driver from New Jersey on Fri Feb 20 2015 I purchased my Jeep Compass in 2013, and I should have shopped around more. The air bags did not deploy. Prior to deciding on expensive repairs or to send your vehicle to the junk yard, you will need to create a preliminary diagnosis. Any help on why the overheat light came on with the fluid so high, or info on what the residue in the engine is is appreciated. When the tow truck picked it up it poured more fluid out. Having said that, you should be able to recognize the signs that indicate your transmission may be about to fail.
The other times after leaving it sit for approximately 30 minutes, it would restart. When starting the engine its like it almost doesnt want to start. I'm worried my transmission will be destroyed, but it sounds like there's no fix for this. The failure mileage was unknown. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.
I wonder if one has something to so with the other. Took to dealership they said it was throttle control sensor which they stated wasn't covered under warranty. I looked around and the only place I saw with any residue on it is in the pictures below. Ideally, if your transmission overheats, your Transmission Temperature Light will come on. Updates sprinkled throughout the Compass' history — in lieu of a major redesign — make the Compass you see today a mismatch between the good quality we've seen from Jeep in recent years and the old Jeep that lingers inside the Compass.
I have not driven it on the highway now for weeks because I fear the transmission is going out again and am afraid of being hit in traffic. My boat weighs approx 1700lbs. The majority of vehicle cost is really expensive. I did some reading in other forums and found a guy who said he solved the problem. The guy in the other forum can't find the link said when the transmission fluid expanded too much from heat it would begin to foam and lose viscosity and the ability to cool the transmission. In another 30K or less you wiill have the same problem. It went out at about 40000 miles and again at about 90000.
