Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. There is more blood and gore than I care for but I like the movie because the story line is intriguing and origional. Not only is the story generically bland, but the picture features merely average set design, poor production values, an awful script, unremarkable acting, and dull action scenes. Tech specs are excellent as well. They speak their own language when they do speak.
Subtle atmospherics -- such as dripping water in an old, dank, and dark corridor -- is nicely reproduced. The group we center on has the young sheriff leading a small band whose numbers dwindle as the month gradually moves toward its end. My favorite vampire was Megan Franich, never heard of her so I googled her and she's very hot looking in real life and tattooed up. Right from the get-go, this transfer exhibits a sense of detail up there with the best high-def. Synopsis This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. The vampires use the dark to their advantage, and surviving this cold hell is a game of cat and mouse¿and scream The vampire movie may have the most limited requirements in the horror film genre, but there are just certain trappings we vampire fans demand to see, even if those very conventions make it nearly impossible to inject fresh life into the moribund concept.
Unfortunately, those expectations come crashing down not too long after the picture begins. Also included are Dolby Digital 5. Whatever its flaws and inconsistencies, '30 Days of Night' kept me watching, so even if it won't go down as a truly classic vampire flick, it does -- for lack of a better pun -- inject some bloody jolts into a genre that's long been as dry as a turnip. Suddenly, Vampires were back with a vengeance; they were once again creatures to be feared rather than drooled over. Director: Writers: , , Starring: , , , , , Producers: , , , , , » 30 Days of Night: Dark Days Blu-ray Review 'Bland Days' is more like it. Comprehensive but well-paced, it's the highlight of the disc's supplements, and one of the better docs I've seen on a Blu-ray in recent months.

Dark Days is about as cheap and inconsequential a follow-up as there ever was; while the movie isn't a total loss -- the violence is bloody and the vampires still appear sinister -- it's far from even remotely recapturing the magic of the original. In a small Alaskan town, thirty days of night is a natural phenomenon. Add to that a population of good-looking, if fairly dense locals, led by Sheriff Eben Oleson Josh Hartnett , his estranged, soon-to-be-ex-wife Stella Oleson Melissa George , and various character oddities the buffoonish local mechanic, the kindly couple with a sick grandfather etc. This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. I don't like seeing innocent children acting evil and viceous in movie roles covered in blood attacking people.
Vampires were painted as sinister, deadly, and unforgivingly violent; the film was bloody, ugly, horrific, and plenty of fun, getting about as far away from today's sensation as it possibly could. Of course, the film's focus is upon the fact that it is also entering into its thirty days of dark and also into siege by a bunch of meat eaters who don't much care whether it is dog, sheep, man or women. I just wanted people to know what happened here. The speak on the elements that carried over from the first film, creative design choices, casting, shot construction, filmmaking techniques, and other technical and thematic tidbits. No, there are not a ton of bullet points here, but the quality is generally high. Otherwise, the track enjoys a nicely spacious posture; it feels big and is accentuated by a fair amount of bass that's usually tight and precise but occasionally a bit on the sloppy side; then again, it seems in-line with the picture's intended sound. The acting is pretty much only on this side of atrocious; the actors can hold their heads high because it's hard to blame them when their script has them spouting off one quote from the Horror Scriptwriting for Dummies 101 guidebook after another; who can blame them when this is all they have to work with? Just when it seems all hope is lost of brining attention to the facts behind the tragedy, Stella's approached by three vampire hunters -- Amber Diora Baird , Todd Harold Perrineau , and Paul Rhys Coiro -- all of whom have suffered personal losses at the fangs of the bloodsuckers.
Such sonic inventiveness doesn't let up for the rest of the flick, and '30 Days of Night' is quite an aggressive treat. The film's color palette is appropriately winter-like, with desaturated grays, blues, and pale browns rendered cleanly and consistently. But soon they find there are much more satisfying thirst-quenchers about: human beings. Even the main villain looks bored throughout the film. Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction. Stella's reluctant to help -- particularly when she learns that a tame vampire named Dane Ben Cotton is heading up the group -- but when she's informed that Lilith was responsible for the slaughter in Barrow, Stella locks and loads and heads into the heart of Los Angeles' vampire country to slay the leader and find the closure she so desperately needs. Reviewed by , October 1, 2010 You don't hunt them. Now, these vampire hunters must venture into L. As a result, the characters are completely dimensionless, appearing as automatons that wander around the screen, waiting for their next chance to shoot something or spout another worthless line of dialogue. The story was great and it made perfect sense why the vampires would go to that part of the world at that particular time of the year. Instead of action, intelligence and a plot, we get a non-violent talk-a-thon by the movie's characters as to what should be done about 3 or 4 unusual beings who always seem to threaten to attack but never really do The same 3 or 4 actors, made up as if for Halloween, are recycled over and over to comprise the entire zombies I mean, vampire threat. A horror film usually deals with that which we all must face and most dread: Death.
Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction. I honestly cannot recommend this one enough, despite its intense gore and general panning, I implore you to at the very least give it a go, and decide for yourself. I suppose this track is serviceable enough, but it's hard to get past a director's commentary without the director. This catches the attention of a small pod of vampire hunters, who contact her for their crusade against the uber vampire…Lilith. Guessing whether this is anything like a visual image of what they call the northernmost town in Alaska was a nice beginning. That's probably why I didn't give it 5 stars.
Unfortunately, knocking down the video rating a hair is some slight edge enhancement, which can result in thin halos on sharply contrasted areas of the picture particularly some of the long shots of figures silhouetted against snow. As to the former, well, they don't look too bad; it's just that Dark Days is wound so tightly around the need to dumb everything down that even the dank and dark corridors that harbor within their shadows thirsty bloodsuckers or spacious warehouse locales with blocked-out windows that make for the perfect vampire breeding and feeding ground all fail to elicit much of a response, merely fading into the oblivion that devours the film thanks to every other low-rent element. Not only was the picture built around a unique setting and a highly original concept, it was very well-made, evidenced by its strong acting, great special effects, and unflinching and extreme violence supported by exemplary special effects. The result is chilling, and quite effective. Let say that there is a bug or error on 30 Days of Night 2007 movie, please report us via contact page or live chat.
