Hi all, I am new here, but I just got done doing a transmission filter replacement on my 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 4 speed auto. You must remove the drive shaft. Back to the flush procedure. Both the Chilton's and Haynes for my '76 Aspen say the 904 holds 4 quarts. So long as you're not mating the 3500 to a big block, and both vehicles have the same drive configuration either 4x2 or 4x4 , the swap should be seamless. After extensive research on line I have been told this truck takes a 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, and a 4L80E I can't seem to find a consensus and I want to order a replacement online and don't want to have to return it because I ordered the wrong transmission. It will take about 30 seconds and will pump out 3-4 quarts of fluid.
Got any input or information on that???? Remove one torx bolt and loosen the other above the shift cable bracket. Put the new gasket on and feed the bolts in. Then check fluid level and add as necessary. Tools: 10mm socket 13mm socket T40 torx bit 1. They will use the same filter and are serviced the same. If your good you can drive the new seal in with a hammer.
Be careful when you lower the pan, there will still be a little fluid left in there. You may have to twist it a little. This is not a back-flush and will not dislodge any particles in the tranny. I find it interesting that when it comes to the oil in your motor that no one recommends leaving it in your motor more than a year even if you didn't drive the car the entire year. But first block the wheels so truck don't roll.
You'll see the seal that matches the one in the kit. For eight years of its sixteen year life, I hauled two trailer loads of hay every summer. And it will do so without being a danger to me or anyone else if I can help it. You will need to use a hook type pick to get the seal out, on the sleeve you can use a screw driver to colapse the side in to pull it out. Some will be left in the tqconverter and you will never know exactly how much unless you take the trans off and pull the converter out and empty it. Thanks for the write up! They took it for a quick test and then handed it back over to me. We took it to our favorite trans shop that we really trust. If not then don't worry, but if so then take it out clean it off and place back in. For some reason it seems that transmission service has become almost a thing of the past. I eventually loosened the mount and jacked up the transmission enough to remove the pan.
Someone do one on a coolant flush so that I'll be motivated for that as well. Let's begin with the supplies. Other than change it 5years. There is always a layer of black sludge and some amount of iron dust in them. No hard shifts and I would say its shifting tighter with less lag.
One of the mechanics was telling me that if we switch it over to Amsoil or anything else for that matter that it will void the warranty. I think your handy little book in the glove box says, 8L90 says well nothing? Here's what the filter seal looked like once I got it out. First reuse the one already installed unless it is torn. Now, just seat the filter and be sure you've got it oriented correctly. It's usually caused by worn bearings. The E Trans has a Bigger Electrical plug on the left side of trans lower side rear above the pan.
