Unless your buddy is homeless or lives in his mothers basement and has a negative net worth, he is taking great risk by driving around an illegally overloaded truck. I have seen some small trucks and some big chippers. They might even have built a few back in December of 1997. The fact that an F350 can handle 4 tons it can is irrelevant. I have also had it loaded with 4,000+ pounds plus towing 13,000lbs.
I would guess fresh chips would weigh less, but 700 lbs a yard would be a safe number to use for figuring out what a full load of chips weighs. I just checked the sticker on the door frame. As mentioned above; Fill up your fuel tank and weigh it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It probably holds close to 7 or 8 Yards extra 3800-4400 lbs when full.
Chipper weighs in at 7,000 lbs. In the event that your friend is involved in an accident he faces the possibility of losing that F350, his house, bank account and possibly his freedom if the accident results in someones death. I just got a paper from ford about the lawsuits for the 6. They won't reimburse my labor but at least I got something back. That lawsuits has close to 100k people involved. Those weight ratings are actually more of a suggestion cause we all know it ain't loaded til its overloaded. As it sits without any chips it weighs in at 13,500 That leaves 6,000 lbs for chips, with a 14 yard box.
I have scaled close to 15k before and the truck can handle it no problem, but I don't do that to often. It was overloaded, but really handled it quite well. If you broke a spring and rolled it and hit my wife and kids I guarantee nobodys insurance would cover that lawsuit. I rarely fill it unless I'm on private cottage roads. Every once in a while I get old threads like this. The other thing is not can the truck haul it cuz most won't quit. I think its a little much.
They just called them a 1999 year model. I just got a paper from ford about the lawsuits for the 6. If full whould I be overweight? Just go slow and be careful. Got the password, logged in, did a search and both numbers were in the second place I looked. I ended up buying an f550 with a gas v10 due to emissions laws being so stingy around here.
So, again, if anyone can shed a glimmer of light on this dark hole I will be at the bottom looking up. The maximum payload of the Ford F-350 with a regular cab is 7,260 pounds. The maximum towing capacity of the Ford F-350 is 19,000 pounds. I've even called a local Ford dealer. Thats what I did and it took less than 1 hour.
It all comes down to how you have it registered. Working that light will put you out of business very quickly around here, to much back and forth to the job and not enough plowing. The only problem with the fords anymore is you can't get a new one that isn't poop anymore. Anything above that and you are breaking the law,if you get into a accident overweight you will be at fault. The maximum gross vehicle weight rating is the maximum safe weight of the truck including all fluids, accessories, cargo and passengers. Truck is great so far.
As far as the others running 6,000 over that is just stupid. A 2015 Ford F-150 truck weighs between 5,941 and 8,611 pounds depending on the model, features and type of wheels. So I can haul 2500lbs legally. I think you know the answer. If your buddy wanted to haul 4 tons he should have bought an F550. Go to a place that has certified scales and weigh it up empty.
