I might've been able to avoid my engine swap if the G8 had one of those. Smoke appeared from the front end of the vehicle. I read on another thread the engine now sees the engine is hotter than the ambient temp it should be and shuts off the gage to protect it from going off scale. You may have multiple issues here. They identified all three problems. The first time it occured I took the battery cables off for several hours but the message came back. Hooking scan tool and trying to command the gauge with by directional control. I discovered it had been running looking at the trip gauge. Re connect your harnesses, and then take your intake hose and push it back onto mass airflow sensor first, and then down onto the throttle-body.
Two weeks later, both the message and the light come back on. Your coolant temperature sensor is right down in here. You can reach your hand in. Anyone ever have this happen to them or can share what detective part is causing this? Never a problem on the highway since the fan wasn't required. I hope this took care of the problem! A week or two after this started, the car began to flash up the coolant was low.
