However , the original novel took place in the 1880s or earlier, but this film moves Quatermain's adventures to the era of World War I, in an unusual case of a semi-update. He gathers the enemies of Allan and plans to conquer the city. The wedding plans have to be postponed. Yes, they are somewhat low budget and the monsters in them are not particularly convincing.
But it's still pretty cool. I think Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone and Henry Silva did it for the paycheck too. And, yes, there are some aspects about the final battle that are a bit hokey.
