I'm contemplating purchasing one,but don't have much experience with dozers,let alone ones of this vintage.
. Just google that and you will find plenty. You should be able to use a smaller grease gun with the expensive button head fitting. Does anyone know where I can get this grease gun. Mostly running on natural gas right out of the well. I was the third generation to own it.
It was a small bulldozer with a wide range of options for farmers, loggers, building contractors and the military. I am in no way qualified to comment on A-C crawlers, don't know much about those, be interesting to see what is called for thjough, and the information below does apply to some of these kinds of components, again, best look in the manuals and see whats what. I know there are letters that follow but i dont see it painted anywhere on the machine. I like the Allis line of crawlers due to the fact that I am familiar with their repair. Everything works,except the charging system. You say parts are still available? Just the big long spout that comes off the transmission and goes to the right side of the machine. We are located 20 miles east of Boise, Idaho.
All info here for Alemite buttonhead is good. Is the motor and transmission fluid the same? They originally used qty 10 each of the fiber and qty 10 each of the steel discs. Optional track arrangements included 33-link tracks spaced 60 inches apart. I'll have to post the pictures of it that I took. A parts manual is also a separate manual. I don't it ever breaking down. Was used to work on the 8th wonder of the world the St. Never used anything like this so was wanting to know what it is and what it looks like. They were also easy to work on and quite rebuildable. My father passed away in 2006 after completely going thru it; it has less than 200 hours on an overhaul of the Detroit diesel motor in it. Im hoping the hydrauclics are just a fluid issue. Thanks Deas,and also welcome to the forum. Really loved that little tractor. Do you know of any places to where i could send the lever controls in to have the seals re-done? Fairly simple, very reliable, and they'd run on any type of fuel, properly set up. Another question is do the button head fittings come in different sizes? The more members that join, the bigger resource for all to enjoy. All of the ag hd5's I have known had lifetime rollers They have hex plugs and use motor oil. You could actually get either one for a while in certain models. Definitely check the undercarriage before buying. They are a good old dozer and we had a lot of them out at one time. I worked for a dealer of the equipment in the early seventies in Florida and met a lot of the factory guys.
