I'm sure someone on this Forum knows. I was told the 4cyl and 6cyl bell housings are essentially the same, but the 4cyl is rotated slightly due to the angle of the block. And whats been the experience of people doing this? Their kit's also include a spigot bearing to match the input shaft of the trans, and a special flywheel machined and balanced specifically for the application. They also very expensive, hard to find, and the clutch and starter are costly as well, but they are bulletproof. . Regards, Andy Sorry for the extremely late response.

If you tried to use a 4cyl bell housing on a 6cyl the axles and differential would be rotated way too high and not line up with everything else. These are stronger than their predecessors, and also somewhat more expensive, partly because of the relative newness. These are new, and are suitable for a large number of replicas and Supercars. Exactly what I needed to do for my build. Probablly bearing related but I won't know until I open her up which will hopefully be this week. If it is not the same, you can probably drill and tap new holes for the 01E bell housing since the Kennedy adapter is quite large. I had the headers made at a local shop in Coral Springs.
Kennedy Engineered Products tells me that they can only adapt Chevy to Audi 5000 transaxel. However I have not yet been able to run the engine, so whether or not the parts actually work or not is yet to be 100% proven. The engine will fit, but I need to figure out if the transmission will fit and axles align within tolerance. If bellhousing are different, is it possible to modify Kennedys adapter? If the 01E and 5000 series called 016 use the same clutch parts, then the Kennedy starter and spigot bearing would probably work. Or cut a hole through the bellhousing if you can find a spot. Kennedy also sells clutch parts for their kits, but they may be standard Audi components. Or cut a hole through the bellhousing if you can find a spot. Looks like an Audi 016 trans might be a solution.
