Dumb characters are even easier. . He crawls on all fours from the kidnappers, forcing those start chasing the baby, found themselves face to face with a huge city.
Baby Bink couldn't ask for more; he has adoring if somewhat sickly-sweet parents, he lives in a huge mansion, and he's just about to appear in the social pages of the paper. But seeming to them on the top of an easy affair turns into a very difficult challenge - because the baby is not as harmless as it seems at first glance. Their hostage proves quite resourceful, however, escaping their hideout and making his way into downtown Chicago. But Bink did not miss, armed with the knowledge of his beloved books, he goes to his goal, not noticing the obstacles. I love this kind of movie and seeing the great Joe Mantegna take his lumps so valiantly brings a smile in itself. Now the con men have to find their abductee, who believes that in order to return home he must reenact scenes from his favorite storybook, including trips to the zoo and a construction site.
And all the while, we're laughing. And a lot more ruthless. Unfortunately, not everyone in the world is as nice as Baby Bink's parents; especially the three enterprising kidnappers who pretend to be photographers from the newspaper. I saw this in the theatre when it first came out and, I must admit, the entire packed-in audience was laughing hysterically at every single pratfall, gag and slapstick business that occurred. It's nice to play dumb once in a while.
Three of the dimmest kidnappers in history Mantegna, Pantoliano and Haley make the mistake of kidnapping a rich couple's little baby, who turns out to be far more resourceful than all three of them combined. The plot is straight out of Cartoon Land, with a low bow in the Three Stooges' direction compliments of scripter John Hughes surprise! And even nicer to witness it. . . . . .
