I'm a SuperDuper guy myself I like clones for local backup but I do use Crashplan Central for offsite backup and wouldn't hesitate to use the software for a local or self-managed offsite backup. I was able to use these backups to rescue myself from a self-induced computer crash see. SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, and CrashPlan all look like viable solutions to my situation. That way every time after the initial sync it will copy over just the updated files, as you configure it to, limiting the amount of data that needs to be copied. The most recent AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule models were released back in 2013. I have a hard drive on a newer Macbook in Target Disk Mode, going to an older but updated MacBook Pro, which has an external hard drive attached. Daily backups for her aren't super critical. In my case, I have two internal drives that I needed to exclude from Time Machine backup. Apple advised me to relocate my movie files to an external hard drive and herein lies my query. Unfortunately, my external hard drive is in the excluded list and I have tons of irreplaceable files on it already so therefore can't wipe it and reformat it I think.
