This film focuses on the heroic efforts of various Rangers to get to the downed black hawks, centering on Sgt. Black Hawk is quite simply the best movie of the year 2001 and the best war movie I have seen. Not only was the setting of the film accurate to the real thing, but the way that the movie was filmed is great because it seems like someone is running along the battle scene getting everything on tape. Black Hawk Down is quite an achievement in creating a realistic representation of an event in recent history. What should have been a piece of cake wound up being the longest sustained firefight involving U.
The Extended is 5 seconds longer. Not for the faint hearted,or weak stomached, but a truly powerful, compelling motion picture. The plan seemed simple enough: the Army is sent into Somalia by the government to try to put an end to the Civil War. His longest day begins with a briefing by Maj. The leading characters are played by stars who will be familiar to frequent moviegoers but may be hard to tell apart for others. Unlike some war films that temper the battle with slower character-building sequences, you have to wait only thirty minutes for the Rangers' mission to go into effect. If you're as big a fan of 'war movies' as I am, Black Hawk Down should be on your short list of 'gotta have' movies.
It was a mission that should probably never have been attempted and not well thought out. It is a movie told from the soldiers point-of-view, pure and simple. This lead to a large and drawn-out firefight between the Rangers and hundreds of Somali gunmen, leading to the destruction of two U. Black Hawk Down Based on Mark Bowden's 1999 best selling nonfiction book, Black Hawk Down is a gritty, sometimes harrowing account of the bloody firefight between 150 Army Rangers and Delta Force commandos against literally thousands of Somali militia members in the streets of Mogadishu. And it shows the horribly troubles nation of Somalia in all its ugly violence. McKnight and Josh Hartnett, who plays the sergeant who leads the mission and feels personal guilt every time a man is lost. Scott's visual strategy takes advantage of the presence on that day of aerial spotter planes with infra-red sensors that could detect the movements of the humans below.
Army Rangers, commanded by Capt. Quân đội Mỹ, kể cả lực lượng Liên Hiệp Quốc vẫn không thể cứu vãn được Somali khỏi cảnh loạn lạc. It is a useful tool for keeping the audience informed. Ridley Scott presents, with technical precision, yet also with minor inaccuracies in content, a movie about the military operation in 1993 in Mogadishu, that has become a disaster for the American troops and the best film about a modern military conflict. It felt like he was pandering to the audience just a little bit, and it wasn't necessary. Awesome cast, intense action, and a great story to boot.
We were attempting to capture or terminate a warlord and his associates in the heart of the city. If so, Black Hawk Down documents America's first showdown with Osama Bin-Laden and his followers. We do not get to know whether the man merely wanted to protect his property or posed a live threat for the soldier. The Americans gave better than they got, but from any point of view, the U. Though the movie and book never made this clear, there is circumstantial evidence that Aidid never seen in the movie, not even in archival footage was supported by Al-Qaeda advisers. Every explosion startled me and filled me fear, every gunshot felt like it was whizzing right by me, every mistake or unforeseen event had me on the edge of my seat with stress and anger.
Danny McKnight Tom Sizemore , the resourceful Delta Sgt. The film is very close to the actual mission. The teeth of disk holder are undamaged. The second disk is making-of, and includes lots of interviews with actors, their training sessions in preperation for their roles, the military's involvement in the picture, and pretty much everything else you could think of from a behind-scenes perspective. That there were not more casualties is a credit to them and ultimately a credit to all of us. The Americans are short on ammo and water, facing enemies not particularly shy about exposing themselves to danger.
Black Hawk Down lacks the former's emotional resonance, but unlike the latter, it thrives on the fact, creating a final product as mind-challenging in its construction as it is mind-blowing its visualization. In the Theatrical Version we only see the blood on the floor and Garrison trying to wipe it away. The story of the soldiers that faced a difficult situation, their courage and comradship is proof that the ancient art of soldiering has not changed since its early days - its not about the fight, its about the people, the brothers-in-arms that are your family. This film focuses on the heroic efforts of various Rangers to get to the downed black hawks, centering on Sgt. The cinematography by Slawomir Idziak avoids the bright colors of upbeat combat movies, and its drab, dusty tones gradually drain of light as night falls.
A brutal, yet bearable war film. At the end I was emotionally and mentally drained. A fact-based account of a mission undertaken by U. It's amazing to watch what seems like thousands of extras playing the Somali militia swarming over the soldiers, and the action and camerawork is reminiscent of a video game as the soldiers try to escape their precarious situation through the streets of Mogadishu. In my original review, I questioned the possibility of these eye-in-the-sky shots; countless readers told me they were based on fact and are described in Mark Bowden's book about the battle.
Grimes Ewan McGregor , a desk-bound clerk getting his first taste of live combat. It has truth to war and circumstance, and is an extremely well put-together movie. So, how can the Extended version improve the film yet further? Those movies that show bravery and heroism of individuals, even in a campaign where the goals can be morally questionable, are usually the best movies. In Mogadishu, Somalia, in October 1993, 18 Americans lost their lives, 70 more were wounded, and within days President Bill Clinton pulled out troops that were on a humanitarian mission. In the end, 70 soldiers are injured and 18 are dead, along with hundreds of Somalians.
Being an avid action movie fan, I can attest to the lack of shovel needed when viewing this film as the corn just wasn't piling up. It proved to be a desperate highly intense firefight as the Somali's swarmed in from all sides. This 3 disk set is loaded with extras inclusing two documentaries on the actual event, production notes and other extras. On the basis of his work in this film, co-star Eric Bana, a relatively unknown Australian actor playing Delta Sgt. I strongly recommend this film for its good historical accuracy, lack of political focus, excellent acting, directing, sound and photography.
