While you can edit the document in Word, you won't be able to save the file with the same name. When I paste the text into notepad, it's all blank boxes as well. In other cases, the document may open, but as read-only. This happened after some recent would-be upgrade of Word from Microsoft. And, even if I were able to do so, how would that remove the locked condition from the template? Selecting commands eg Select All are greyed out. When I created the chart in Word, it automatically opened an Excel spreadsheet in which I entered the data.
You can also enable the Developer ribbon to access additional document protection commands. Can it be that if it's version 2007 or 2010 the Excel sheet is not cosidered trusted and thus you are not able to edit it? Some can be deleted, but they cannot be changed. Hi folks - I have been sent an application form in Word which when printed out tends to lose some text in the pre-set fields. First things mornings, I check it. After entering the activation code, received error message that the code entered is not for Office 2013. However, I had transferred the file to this laptop. This only happens on this document.
I have checked it is not read only and that users have permission to edit but this doesn't appear to be the problem. Any time any office app starts acting flakey, this should be your first course of action. Note: the editing controls for Microsoft Word forms are not shown in the ribbon by default, so you first have to to use them. Documents were moved to this folder from another folder on the same Sharepoint site, using the Site Content Structure tool. I'm using the online version of Microsoft Word. I had the same problem with a few documents. My suggestion was to import the document with the locked table into a new, blank document, which should copy the document's content without including any document protection. To anyone from Microsoft that might be reading this. The user can no longer edit their file and I just cannot figure it out. Thank you very much for the reply. Documents that have been marked as the final version, or read-only, will restrict the level of protection you can enforce. Is the chart a link to an Excel chart or a copy of the object in word? I typed in the text form fields in the cells. If even a complete Office reinstall doesn't work, is there any solution? I attempted to directly open the file got a pop-up with options to buy Office, Activate it or Try it for free for a limited time. That may have the original content. Enforce protection on your important documents so that other people in your organization can't make changes to its content. I'm using Excel 2010 and Word 2010.
Or maybe your license has expired for eg if you no longer attend the college , in which case you can only read files, not change anything. Many thanks for any help KrashedKris: The form was made by a template and locked by the author. You are going to have to edit it using a full version of Word I suspect. Sometimes because of broken not inherited permissions, or partial access to a site, users are able to edit in browser, but not in the client.
In Microsoft Word 2013 you can use the Restrict Editing panel to enforce protection in your document. What may have caused this? Having done that I can now alter the row heights, although of course it does alter the nice layout of the form - maybe I'll have to shrink the font sizes instead, but at least I can get a complete printout now with all text present. The fonts toolbar is greyed out. I found an Excel document on reddit that I am attempting to edit to suit my needs. That process is in Office 2013 no different than it is in any previous version. If you're unable to start enforcing protection, then the document may be in use by another person, protection may already be enabled or another attribute may be disabling the function. Not sure where to direct you next, then.
Cordially, Cronista Sorry I wasn't more clear, and I might not have said anything relevant to the thread I was on the phone when I posted. This file will be created anew next time you start Microsoft Word. The user deleted the font from their system then recreated the document. Restart system and fire up Word and a new Normal. I have checked to see if it is protected. You'll then need to reconcile your changes with those made by others in their copies. I am the network admin and have full rights on the network.
