My first order of business will be to attempt to disable the built in security system or simply try to defeat it. I reinstalled the speed sensor finger tight so I could easily remove it again later for solenoid pack re-installation. In 1996, internal mechanical refinements increased durability; and a newer shift torque management replaced the rudimentary spark advance-based system that was introduced on minivans in 1994. I would love to be able to check these things before paying big bucks for a new grounding strap. Where the hell is the friggin thing at????? No other manufacturer had ever attempted to replace the shuttle valves and servos in their transmissions with electric solenoids under computer control — designing the transmission so that a limp home mode was still intact if the transmission controls failed. My next step will be to remove the Lucas from the fluid by flushing it all out of there.
Then one day, I went for a drive. Crawl under the vehicle with a haynes book in hand if need be, and check the solenoid connections to the trans. Then I cleaned inside the mounting hole. Though you can't easily tell by the above picture, the area the pack mounts to is sloped down toward the transmission. In the case of my pack, I found that the above section - lid and middle - wanted to come off as a unit when the screws came out. Then as it is coming down it suddenly will engage for a short time, but disengages when you come to a stop. Seems to good to be true, and I have not seen any posts from anyone who has done it successfully.
This clutch to clutch syncronization takes place within 40-70 milliseconds, producing a very smooth shift. It had low fluid once and I heard that that can cause failure to the packs, anyone else heard that? Note: There have been many engineering changes in this transmission since its introduction. No biggie, I just need a new radiator it's an older vehicle, I get it , but aside from this and other things not mentioned here, to conclude it's one of the more reliable vans out there? They told me the next day that it needed an alternator, and it was a dealer part, and the alternator alone would cost 280. Caravan that blew a head gasket, then the water pump! Let us all know if you have done it successfully and where the wires are. ! If the set speed is exceeded by more than 4 mph 6.
It is worst when accelerating. Any further comments would be appreciated, Thank you. My pack is much quieter now, making the familiar bzzzz-tick it's supposed to make. Now that you read the information on the video, you should know that, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear work mechanically and 4rth gear shifts in and out electronically. I suspect this is more than likely due to the speed sensors re-accumulating metal shavings, however, rather than low fluid pressure. I paid 1700 of my son's school money, because we do not have any, for a new ground strap.
Now that everything's been taken apart and thoroughly cleaned, it's time to start using the new parts. As you can see, my old one is in bad shape, with a large crack above the round bolt hole. This manual is a must have for your overhaul and it is very easy to read and understand. I sent it to a place in Texas, they charged me 375. Most applications will provide a manual shift mode function for both smooth driving without shift shock, and enjoyable driving with manual ratio selection. I also do not have reverse.
I will find it somehow. Actually, I'm glad for the correct info. Put the 24 on battery bolt then under the breather there is a ground point on the engine put the other end of 24 and one end of the 40. The 3 red wires is really 1 red flow through with another red kind of glued to it. Most other shifts were noticeable enough that I knew I needed to address the situation immediately when I got home.

I sat there for a moment, stunned. In fact, you will notice a substantial difference between the book you are holding and any other books written on the subject. So I replace the Solenoid pack on the side of the tranni. An extreme close-up of a valve assembly. Although this transaxle is not a relatively new design, there may be parts of the rebuild process that you are not very familiar with, or you may be new to this particular type of transaxle.
Where is the splice and ground strap?!?!?!? The car shifted pretty well, but would slam in and out of overdrive in the mountains when transitioning between downhill and uphill climbs. In an attempt to fix oil in the radiator believed to be trans fluid leaking within , I went to the local junkyard, there were 4 vans to choose from. It's not that easy to do any real damage in here. A remanufactured unit will include major alterations and upgrades designed to make them both stronger and more durable. Reasoning that all the car needed was fresh transmission fluid, I took a chance on the car and bought it. I could not find a torque spec for these screws, but I don't think it's necessary. Throwing parts at it because some code reader gave a code is such a waste of money.
You do not want any kind of dirt getting down into the transmission case when the pack comes off, and there are lots of places where that dirt can collect, both in front of and behind the solenoid pack. That is why my solenoid pack was so noisy. I played the stupid little wife part and said gee let me call my husband and ask him first. Follow-up opinion on 1996 Caravan - my first ever Dodge van. Shiny metal to shiny metal is good.
