When I started the 366 project, Egg was one of the first movies I shortlisted as something I must include. One memorable sequence consists of shots of the pavement speeding by focusing on the arrows and lines painted on the highway , quickly alternating with fast zooms to an automobile accident and a woman with a bloody face walking away from a burning vehicle. A very minor incident in the overall plot, but illustrative of how every frame of the film exists to disorient the audience. The first is about the chameleon and his maneuvers as he is forced out of his comfort zone, while the second is about the total lack of moral standards in different echelons of society. There is obvious thinning and dynamic unevenness can be very easy identify. It is a much bigger film with a lot of lofty targets that delivers the type of uncompromising social dissection that Elio Petri's best films do.
This somewhat controversial gore flick follows a twisted killer played by Jean Louis Trintignant. The next morning I woke up, considered the mixed-up story, and assumed that I must have hallucinated the entire thing. Pay close attention to the game that is set up at the big party and the quick exchanges between the players and especially the urgent business meeting where the usefulness of the mutants is discussed as they are both brilliant litmus tests. Bruno Maderna provides an avant-garde score in which the frolicking of humans and chickens alike are scored with flamenco while the film's suspense scenes are lent a more atonal accompaniment. There are no audio dropouts to report. The dubbed version sounds like a treat! I was certainly not expecting an abstract anti-capitalist hyper-stylized Italianate feathered enigma. The film is very carefully constructed to ensure proper progression of two entirely different stories. The audio is underwhelming as well. The Antonio Brushini review 5:07 notes the type of gialli of the period the film sought to deconstruct, the initial Venice Film Festival reception, the effect of the cutting of the reissue version, and what documentation existed about the cut footage before it was rediscovered. It involves Anna who owns the farm , her husband Marco who kills prostitutes in his spare time and Gabriella the very beautiful secretary. The function of the chameleon that Trintignant plays in this film is basically identical to the one that Gian Maria Volonte's creep has in , with the only difference being that Petri's film eventually becomes so unhinged that it practically evolves into a nihilist's wet dream.

He always pays them well — really, really well. To the average giallo fan Egg could be seen as merely incoherent. Note: This is a Region-Free Blu-ray release. Or, like a man hiding deep secrets.

Both the English trailer 3:53 and the Italian trailer 3:45 employ narration exclusive to them to convey a sense of plot while misleading viewers to believe the film focuses on the homicidal impulses of Trintignant's protagonist. Additionally, there is background hiss as well as high-frequency distortions. Marco then sets out not only to regain control of his life, but ensure that it is never ever jeopardized by accidental errors. Marco also has an impeccable style which further enhances his image as a serious professional. You can find a more detailed assessment of our privacy policy on our. Marco continues to kill as jealousy becomes more prevalent on the farm. I put the tape back in the player and watched it again in the full light of sobriety—and was just as confused as in my initial Robitussin-besotted midnight viewing. The presentation is just very, very poor. Written by It is one of the more famous and well made Giallo thrillers produced in Italy. I remembered a blur of red herrings: prostitute killings, Gina Lollabrigida lounging about in her underwear, scarves with odd hieroglyphics, a speeding car, a scene of a woman crawling out of a car wreck that had nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the plot, and chickens, chickens everywhere. The avant guard soundtrack is definitely off-putting. For more about Death Laid an Egg and the Death Laid an Egg Blu-ray release, see published by Dr.
When I watched it, I was expecting just another giallo along the lines of the Umberto Leniz or flicks I had been binging on at the time: something with a black gloved killer stalking pretty girls with too much eye-shadow, and hopefully a little bit of nudity. I like a lot of the films that Cult Epics have brought to the home video market over the years and was very excited to see that the label announced Giulio Questi's Death Laid an Egg for Blu-ray, but sadly I have to report that this release is a major disappointment. Missing from the standard edition is the slipcover, reversible cover, lobby card reproductions, and poster. The techniques that Questi and Petri use to reveal the hypocrisy of different groups of privileged people are very similar. Half of the time, it sounds like Maderna just set a flock of chicken extras loose on a piano keyboard in an echo chamber and recorded it.
It involves Anna who owns the farm , her husband Marco who kills prostitutes in his spare time and Gabriella the very beautiful secretary. Anna and Gabrielle are either sunning by a dinky swimming pool or manning the feed machines while Marco has forgone his artistic interests to attend meetings in offices dominated by giant eggs and chicken pop art or shelves where live chickens are filed as part of collected data. Of course there is also another player, a female, whose services Marco typically contracts in the hotel's bar. Copyright 2008-2019 366 Weird Movies.
