It really doesn't degrade the sound, either. It is slightly more complicated but it works. Unfortunatly, sometimies that means I am compelled to try and solve all problems myself, instead of hiring and paying an expert. In this type of setup, the user can run the second zone with the internal amplifiers of the receiver, and a third or fourth zone using a separate amplifier. If you wish to disengage the speakers then turn off the second zone. For what it's worth, I did some playing around tonight with the system.
You no longer have back speakers irrespective of what mode you use. You cannot have both a main 7. I didn't test it, but am assuming if I reconnected the optical cable from option 1 above that the audio to zone 2 would be out of sync. I'm using a Niles volume control in the dining room, with my Denon 3312ci zone 2 powering it for now. In addition to the method in 1, many 7. .
It'll let you play music from your computer running iTunes and control the volume, but I don't think it'll do anything with music on the iPod. Going into the receiver menu and changing settings is not something I want my wife doing nor will she want to. Didn't end up using Zone 2 at all but it will work. This unit has a built-in 7-channel power amplifier. Yes, I'm sure there is a delay like that. Only after hours of frustration and research on this site and others did I realize that these terminals will only pass analog audio.
How are you switching them from being back speakers to being second zone speakers? So does Denon still have this issue? You have to go into the setup menu and choose which output you want active. Or even hanging out on the appropriate threads around here. Oh, wait -- and except that the main zone needs to have no center speaker, or be in a surround mode that has no center output for this to work. The mode is intended to be used with all speakers located in the same zone and as one combined element though and not as a means by which to have multiple instance of two speakers outputting stereo audio in their own right. But your post has me wondering. My candidates are 12 channel amp with Sonos Connect source s for streaming or a handful of Sonos Amps.
The manual states that you can adjust it to variable but in the actual onscreen menu I am only given that option for surround back speakers and not for Zone 2. Ok im up and running now although as far as i can see the apple remote app wont do anything for me since i only want to play the music thats in my ipod? But how must i do this? But your post has me wondering. However, if you are using the receiver to power the second zone, you will still sacrifice the full 7. If i set it at the amp its fine but if i touch the volume with the remote ap its back to a max of 81. There is a direct code at least a serial code that sets the input to analogue but goes back to digital by default if you set the amp off and on again or change inputs. My question is about the sync of audio in zone 2 to zone 1 since they are close to eachother and a delay is very noticeable. I'm glad you found a work-around.
All audio is in multi stereo now, main and zone 2. What you can't do is have 2 different digital sources playing in the two zones. This would equate to outputting stereo audio via all speakers in that room. My patio speakers are connected to Onkyo-607 powered Zone-2 patio. I have speakers in this pool room and, for now, want to simply have zone 2 audio in this room. Those speakers are no longer back speakers and will no longer function as back speakers while you've assigned the associated amplification for powering a second zone with.
You could use a resistive network to drop the level of the Zone 2 speaker level output but the resistors need to be sized correctly because they will get hot. You no longer have the ability to have a 7. The 3312 has separate volume limits for all zones, so I guess that the 2312 will be the same. Ive done a bit of searching but Ive not found any clear cut info. Also the following post go into more detail on Zone 2. When trying to use this same optical source for zone 1 and zone 2 and not display picture on zone 1 tv , it would stop playing in zone 2 as soon as I changed the zone 1 source. Also the volume issue im having is with the denon remote app it wont go over 81.
I am willing to try anything. I never thought it would be so hard to get audio out to my other zones and still use the 5. Just need to remember to switch this back after listening so I can get better audio when only using zone 1. Many think that Zone 2 or Zone 3 or 4 can only be used in another room, but that is not the case. As I initially explained, you can only output analogue sources to the second zone so only devices connected to your receiver via analogue inputs can be output to the second zone. Strangely, I tried turning off lipsync in the Denon and it actually fixed the echo issue, but only temporarily - it came back after a few minutes.
There may be an audio delay and there's no assurance that zone 2 and the Main zone will be in sync with one another even if playing the same source. I didn't think it would work that way, and I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I will this weekend and report back. However, some receivers will give you the option of running either Zone 2 or Zone 3 using the built-in amplifiers of the receiver. I think you're on to something there. One thing I realized when reading your message is that I may have a slight difference in setup and you're right, what you're doing is exactly what I'd like, but for some reason I have a considerable delay while you do not. I have set the system to enable the remote to change the volume on Zone 2. I initially plugged my zone 2 speaker feed into the Denon surround back assignable terminals, assigned them to zone 2, and expected zone 2 sound.
On my older Onkyo-607, I'm tied to analog sources only. If these options are important to you, make sure you check before you buy. The only way around this, and what I've used myself, is to route video separately from audio from one source to get around the issue. One thing I realized when reading your message is that I may have a slight difference in setup and you're right, what you're doing is exactly what I'd like, but for some reason I have a considerable delay while you do not. Mine gives the options of 0db, -40db, or variable.
