If you're a fan of the Wimpy Kid series, I really do recommend giving this version a read, as in my opinion it was pretty interesting to see the changes that were made and seeing what did or didn't make it into the final release of the books. I am a huge fan of the Wimpy Kid book and movie series, so when I heard they were making a fourth movie I was very happy.
Storyline: To Greg Heffley, middle school is the dumbest idea ever invented. It's a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are morons, wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment to the cafeteria floor - and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties. » I went to this movie with very low expectations, and I was very disappointment by this movie. Greg accidentally hits a girl with two braided pig tails in the head with his knee. This family cross-country adventure turns into an experience the Heffleys will never forget.
. Those feelings did not last. Wimpy kid series is funny and quite enjoyable even for adults. I had to stop when I reached the 200th page because I don't see the point reading the complete series in random page orders. I am a wimpy kid books fan! This file however is a jumble of the series.
Many of the jokes revolve around poop, farts and throw up. The acting is very bad, the humor is so gross and forced and the new actors do not capture the same likeness as the old actors. What made these jokes worse was that they were executed poorly. I borrowed each book separately instead. The adventures of a teenager who is fresh out and in elementary, where he has to learn the consequences and responsibility to survive the year. The only good thing about the movie was that the ending scene was very cute and actually made me smile.
To survive the never-ending ordeal and attain the recognition and status he feels he so richly deserves, Greg devises an endless series of can't-miss schemes, all of which, of course, go awry. Pages from other book of the series are placed in the first book. If you wish to see the movie, wait a couple of months and rent it, it is not worth the ticket prices. It should be noted however, that this version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the version that was posted on Fun beginning in 2004, three years before Kinney took from this to clean-up, adapt and edit together into the first 4 or so books of the print series. Which should explain why regular readers of the print series may notice that it appears to be a more jumbled mish-mash of plot elements featured in the hardbacks.
Having not picked up and read through any of them in recent years, it seems to be as good and as funny as I remember it. . . . . .
