The weirdest thing was Buddy flipping out when he lost. Sometimes they do hosting work, too; sometimes the judges host; sometimes the narrator fills in where a host would usually explain something. He should have respected Duffs skills and unlike Duff, he doesn't even acknowledge Duff for what he's good at. I said to my friend, all he had to do was put a brightly decorated base cake under that elephant, and he could have won. I figured they were stacking the deck to bring Discovery viewers over to Food Network. This is for the first time that two such big names of the baking industry are facing each other. It should be a fun show to watch.
Of course with Duff's attention to detail it would have taken him another 10 hours but if he used the same 'technique' as Buddy, it would have only taken him an hour and he could have let his assistant do that. But, Buddy and his horrible Rocky grammar and gold chain gross me out! It's clear Buddy thinks Duff is some primadonna to his nose-to-the-grindstone self and Duff thinks Buddy is a loudmouthed jerk. Watching two guys talk smack can be mildly entertaining when it's generally good natured think some of the back and forth on Beat Bobby Flay. Particularly the various House Hunters. Board Administrator 08-30-2000 Tuesday, April 09, 2019 - 8:48 am Duff sometimes thinks too far outside the box.
I just hate seeing Buddy with them. I was very disappointed and it was just uncomfortable to watch. They will be judged on everything from taste, to technique to design and creativity. The temper tantrum at the end, was just sad. That is how the show is framed. You simply cannot have a cake contest without tasting the cake! Also, I read that Buddy has not been able to go back to Hoboken after his mom's passing and so the fact that the competition is in L.
He took his loss in stride, showed he was disappointed but no tantrums just a strong desire to overcome and do better. So this is what Discovery's acquisition of Scripps gets us. Duff premieres on March 10. When they made a mistake he would rage at them but at moments where he makes mistakes he just fixes it and gets angry. My bf was disgusted by the way Buddy acted and wants Duff to win on principle. He is so jealous of Duff's popularity it's sad.
It's obvious how much better Duffs cakes are decorated, Buddys cakes look like they belong at my 10 year olds bday party. He has employees who have been with him for many years which tells you something. Honestly, Buddy makes the show almost unbearable to watch. One of the things I like about Top Chef, Beat Bobby Flay and X Baking Championships that while there are egos, most of the people are competitive but pleasant and supportive. Nothing says 'decorated by Spencer's Gifts' like those.
So this time I agree with Buddy's victory. More importantly, the sweet treats shined on this. For the bake-off, Duff and Buddy tackled donuts. You recently got married to writer Johnna Colbry and made five cakes for the reception. Watching through Episode 2 last night, I was wondering if the now 2 judges were going to slide into Duff's corner, as there appears to be a decided bias being expressed.
I remember I held the door open for him as he was bringing in a sheeter — this massive piece of equipment that rolls fondant for you — and I was making fun of him. If I was Buddy I would be pissed off too, he was clearly robbed!! Even one of his filing ingredients was store bought. Now that I realize Buddy is barely a year older than me, I really hope this jerky thing is something he does for the cameras otherwise how does he get through life! But watching the show should be enjoyable and it is not. I thought that was rather arrogant. And really, the beach treats, Buddy poured dough into a fryer…. I think Buddy is jealous that Duff has been on more shows and is more well known. He put patches on the outside of the cake.
Buddy is a conceited ass who is cringe inducing. I did the live tweeting with Duff during the show mostly so I could remember stuff to share here. His greatest loves in life are writing, being a family man, and entertaining readers with his take on pop culture as it continues to change throughout the years. We will soon roll them out here. Grow up Buddy, and lose gracefully.
There were lots of mistakes with both cakes and yes, Duff's hydraulics didn't work and his cake was much smaller. What do the Cake Boss and the Ace of Cakes have in common?. Doing ten years of Cake Boss every week trained me and Ralph to go to the of making cakes. That said, Buddy was being an overgrown kid at the end there. However, it is not going to be settling in a single round of the show.
