Yes, still cartoony, with amazing poses and facial expressions, but it was never something that fell into model breaking poses. I haven't seen the special yet, but does it really portray Donald and family as being real ducks who must migrate south during the winter, rather then being basically humans drawn as ducks? He's dumb and just doesn't seem to be all there, which makes him really entertaining. It was so out of character for Disney that I couldn't stop smiling. For one, it makes him seem very old, which I suppose he is. Gus Goose There are a lot of other interesting things to note in this special too.
Naturally, it's sunny and the beach is full of sunbathers. The only problem is that Mickey's stories are anything but scary, and now the kids are whipped into a demanding frenzy. It was absolutely hilarious and a great way to kick off the holiday season. A great mix of old and new. I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about, if you check the rest of his reviews he just rates everything a 1, so please don't listen to him. Like I said, everyone felt out of character. It's how you have it! This is basically my mother at Christmas.
It's still the same old characters, just a bit more quirky, odd, with animated motion like that of the 1920s. Pushing it activates a mechanical arm with a thumbtack. No longer the well-meaning, albeit clumsy, beanpole that I've known since the old days. But based on this we can't really say if he is still living on Grandma's farm or not. The Christmas special is something else, it hits the heart in all the right places.
In this special episode we learn that Disney ducks also migrates south to warmer climate during the winter. I always thought they flew South. He also says he never celebrated Christmas before, when he did in past productions. Also, it felt like it was trying too much to imitate the competition. To be clear, this is the first and only animated short from the newly created Mickey Mouse shorts that I have seen to date.
It's definitely entertaining, and something you should give a watch if you have the time, or just have an inkling for something a little bit outlandish. I felt flickers of SpongeBob in Mickey, Patrick Star in Goofy, and like I said the whole episode seemed out of place in the Disney Universe, and also had humor that just didn't feel like Disney as a whole. Jenny Gase-Baker and Joseph Holt are the art directors and Illya Owens is the editor. I couldn't help but literally burst out laughing a few times, and the risks they took, in lieu of some of the more safer decisions I've come to know in their most recent animations, is a direction I wholeheartedly embrace! One particular moment was the sing along that follows Donald's steady decline as he tries to withstand the winter temperature. Another funny moment is when Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, and Pluto decide to hijack Santa's sleigh instead of asking for his help which is what I thought was going to happen. I literally laughed out loud during a few special moments. The story was written by Darrick Bachman.
