I recommend a reset every month actually - which is what I do with mine. It stopped shifting after th 3rd gear! But having worked on it a bit it doesn't seem that scary anymore. I do not know if it is the pump or the actuator. What andrek254 says make sense and I will relay what I found from this forum to their technician. There is one other possibility and this will be harder to trace - but there is the remote possibility that someone has accidentally bent the hydraulic lines when changing the clutch.

Always good to have a good diagnostician. I found that when relay switches start going bad, they can really be affected by cold temperatures so I decided to start by replacing the relay and to great relief found that was the problem. If it gets bad enough the gearbox wont be able to hold gears. Obviously the car has to be on to do this. I couldn't put my car in neutral to start it.
Im currently thinking that if I replace the accumulator I should probably replace the pump at the same time, I don't want to go through the same labour costs in 50,000k's to get the pump replaced. The usual pump priming noise when I unlock the door was gone. The next day both warning lights was off and i would hear 3 beeps then the cog light comes on and neutral the car by itself. Move selector lever from position 0 to R or 0 to 1 as often as necessary to de-pressurise the system. I've recently had the gear selector sensors changed and also new clutch installed not to mention complete cooling system and suspension overhaul.
It makes me wonder how many people out there have just spend buckets of cash for no reason. What I don't doubt is that at times there is not enough hydraulic pressure to shift but the reason for this is what I'm not sure about. Hi bmwM3smg, And if i may enquire, how difficult and expensive? The clutch adaptation has been done as I have just had a new clutch fitted. Should this not be the case, the accumulator has to be replaced, too. Remove E-Box Cover by removing 4 bolts that hold it in place. Did you replace the pump? Now I could hear the pump purging but it does not sound the same. Any chance it could be an alternator or regulator issue? The second attached picture is the location with the cover on. The second lock position is labeled by arrow 2, when a small sharp tab is inserted into a smaller opening.
Also look for any leaks around the actuator. Usually though, these only fit one way so there is no way to make a mistake when putting the new one in. Did that a few times then started the car, stopped it, started several times, shifting from neutral to 1st to R and back and forth a number of times. Because i had the same issue as you! Taking it home the day of purchase, my gear went into neutral and after hitting the shifter, it gears up. Burkhart Engineering supply an updated superior oil with their kit which helps with cooling and longevity of the pump. So I got under the car and pulled it out and tested it by running a wire from my old battery positive and negative feeds to the pump.
