Hi all, Really hoping someone can help as i'm at a loss with a fault I have with my E60. Does switching off and on get rid of the fault? I have a Blackstone oil test kit sitting in the trunk for the next time I do a flush, should be soon considering the car now has over 162,000 miles on it. Whether you replace the unit yourself or have a shop do it, it takes a significant amount of time. Thanks to their exacting assembly process and high level of durability you can expect a long service life from all Bosch products. If your lights are dim while driving or your battery dies within minutes of starting your car, it's time for a new alternator.
Actually, post a video, it'll be better. I know I sound a little repetitive at this point, but despite the mileage, it's a truly fun car to drive, and I still haven't gotten over that magnificent exhaust note. I went through the process of checking each component and ended up replacing all three as they weren't in a great state but my original problem still persists. If you think the coolant system is still original give very strong consideration to replacing the water pump, thermostat, hoses, coolant reservoir and vent tube while the car is apart to save a significant amount of labor money. Btw I have 05 545i sport package with 65k miles.
It finally bit me, and I was left stranded. Otherwise, there really isn't anything major that needs attention. Hope this helps you guys. But since this car throws miscellaneous error messages all the time, I decided to ignore it. I was at an autocross last weekend and it just delaminated from the windshield mid-run without warning, forcing me to hold it with one hand while I steered with the other.
When it doesn't turn over, the voltage reading on the battery is very low as if it hasn't received a charge. Having looked at what came off it seems the voltage regulator isn't separate on it; not sure if the 545i alternator is different to the 530d's, but good news if the regulator solves your problems. It's the case of the alternator. Then I shut off the vehicle, let it rest for a few minutes, restart it and all the errors disappear for awhile, but they will come back on, not necessarily in the same order, but exactly the same in nature. Did the starter motor replacement myself, not for the faint of heart, need an extra elbow about six inches above the right wrist and a rubber ratchet handle. When it is like this, nothing will fire up, not the iDrive, heater etc.
Who replaced it is he trustworthy and where did you source the replacement from?. So sensing the low voltage the main computer begins to shed load by shutting down what it considers non-essential systems in the car. But that's not terribly important right now, either. How much money did bmw charge you? All warranties, product application, fitment, and performance are the responsibility of Turner Motorsport. With over two decades of parts, service, and racing experience under our belt, we provide only quality performance and replacement parts. I am totally confused, now you're saying that all I need to do is replace the alternator rectifier, can you elaborate some more regarding why the rectifier would cause such mayhem.
Rather than going thru having to replace the above items, it's advisable to install a re-manufactured alternator for fraction of the cost of new one. This mechanism allows the alternator to freewheel to a degree. The brakes feel a lot better now. Ok, so i've been having a play with the car and the hidden menus. Upon receipt of your rebuildable alternator core, you will be refunded the core charge.
Because all of your electronic systems run off of this small piece, it's important that it is operational. I am totally confused, now you're saying that all I need to do is replace the alternator rectifier, can you elaborate some more regarding why the rectifier would cause such mayhem. It took a few hours to finagle the piece in and out of the fuel tank without snapping any of the delicate plastic pieces or the level sensor. All of our performance parts are those we would and do! I am planning on taking your advice with replacing the alternator. The reason I ask is that most of what has to come off the engine to get at the alternator also has to come off to replace the water pump and thermostat. Brian Silvestro I finally got around to flushing the brake fluid long after I should have , and boy was it disgusting. Upon turning off and then on again, the car was back up reading 12 volts and then proceeded to rise up to mid 14's as would be usual with a functioning alternator! I just barely bought a 2007 E60 M5, yes, I decided to take the big leap into the Germany luxury world and I love.
Since the pump is a lot more expensive and annoying to replace, I decided to purchase a new filter and replace it myself to see if it would fix issue. It turned out to be the Alternator rectifier. If you have this happen, turn the car off and let it rest about 30 minutes then you should make it to a safe place. My logic would be alternator as well but i've done load tests on it where i've had everything running on the car, heated seats, stereo, heater etc and the alternator is showing good output. Bosch's high quality unit will give you peace of mind knowing the electrical system will be safe and the voltage will remain steady. This is a Valeo brand new 170 amp alternator.
