The only platform we ever had that was a nightmare was the early ford 6. I have no experience with them personally. You can't possibly like them both equally. The Ford in a crew 4X4 is a mid to low 15 second truck. Unfortunately, they are also pushrod engines which hurts performance. Chevy way less complicated of an engine to make similar power with displacement. I also appreciated that it is less complicated than a turbo and, perhaps, less likely to require maintenance down the road. The 04-08 someone correct me if they made a change mid-production on that model 5. . Shift quality, I prefer the 4L80.
Stock for stock both crew cab short box the 2011 5. The 2v block is much stronger than the 5. That said stock for stock the 5. The new aluminum trucks while lighter aren't night and day over the previous generation weight wise and it's still a zero torque rev happy puny V8 in a pig of a pickup. In a regular cab with a good driver could the 5.
And after reading about all the issues with the EcoBoost I am happy with the decision I have made. It's a small bore engine with a lot more stroke and deck height. Traded it for a 13 with an Ecoboost. Longevity can be hit or miss. The best argument for us 5. To say it is a dinosaur is lame.
