I would love it if the more experienced builders would share their knowledge and experience with me since I'm learning as i go and don't have a lot of experience on full builds like this. That does not mean it is the best solution. Which reminds me of another thing, I highly recommend picking up the swap manual for this. Of course, you can always use an aftermarket tachometer and avoid any of these extra pieces or hassles. With many swap projects in which clearance is minimal, an electric fan must be used. You need to check for clearance and fitment with all parts of the engine, the drivetrain, the serpentine system, even hood clearance.
The floor has to be hacked up to get it to sit on there and you'll need to change the gas tank. A second option is to connect an Cable-X Box that converts the electronic signal to a gear driven cable. You hop in and go — just like a modern car. There will be 2 extra relays to be mounted on the firewall next to the existing 1 that is there now to control the electric fans. In reality, both radiators are useful, but the performance nod is typically given to the aluminum unit.
Matching the drive to the car saves money in the long run and probably some headaches as well. Also I have seen 33x10. Swapping out the pan took about an hour. It was designed as a replacement for the Corvette radiator and costs significantly less. An aftermarket accessory drive simplifies the install, removes the guesswork, and makes sure everything clears.
Kudos for single cab short box goodness. Painless offers several harnesses for nearly any application from the early cable driven units to flex fuel harness that are currently under development. To make the frame horns we sacrificed a pair of frame mounts from a Chevelle. These trucks are pretty light and can fit nice fat powerplants easily. Buying an aftermarket harness and all of the accessories could add up quick and blow our budget.
This will handle the stress caused by offroad use. The good news, however, is that the front area of the chassis is relatively clear of obstacles that the accessory drives can hit. Stock drives are not aesthetic. The 1999 and 2000 model year engines had cast iron heads with all other model years sporting the cast aluminum heads. Unlike others, our kit positions the engine so there is no steering interference and maintains the proper drive-line angle for smooth highway cruising. Front axle shaft… Oldsmobile Bravada's came with a one piece front axle shaft instead of the slide collar found in all other S10 4x4 front axle housings that is weak. All header models are available in your choice of uncoated, polished silver ceramic-metallic coated, or satin black ceramic-metallic coated.
I don't have rims and tires picked out but I'm open to running 16 inch and up rims. That being said, those recommendations are for stock vehicles using all-stock components. You can run stock rubber bushings. Buy the books, surf the sites, and be prepared for long hours of hard work or for writing a big check. Individual systems will vary based on fuel system design, regulator type, fuel cell location, etc.
Accessory locations are different, the exhaust manifolds wonÂ’t fit, the oil pan wonÂ’t clear the crossmember, the wiring harness isnÂ’t as easily grafted into the truck, and the transmission requires a fabricated bracket. Thanks for all the help you have all given! The throttle cable that came with it was about two feet too short for us to be able to use. With a radiator and a fan, there can still be a few more issues. The computer for the engine will pretty much just run the engine and control the electric fans. What you use depends on your budget and space available. The oil pressure line is tapped into the oil bypass plate above the oil filter by drilling and taping it for a mechanical oil pressure sending unit.
Getting the engine in this spot was by far the most time consuming part of the swap, but saved us hours of headaches later. The post-filter was installed after the axle. In reply to Robbie : Thank you, yeah I', not worrying about it yet but I will have to move the truck soon because it will be changing locations so I can work on it so I do need to worry about the wheels soon. Cross member placement along with steering linkage is all going to factor into the equation as well. However, this is typically only an issue if you run your tank below ¼ full.
I mostly went with what I did because I could get the donor car cheaply. Another option is to use an external mounted pump, but you will have to install some sort of sump to suck up fuel. A cool fact about this one is that it was owned by Disney and then sold to the guy who sold it to me. How-ever, correct installation is essential. Boondock also sells an armored bumper that can contain a winch through Synergyoffroad.
Go the other way and install Vette valve covers on a Camaro motor. We noticed that had a ton of engines and transmissions for sale along with lots of other Chevy truck parts. There are a couple of solutions for bleeding air out of a cooling system. With a lot of measuring and a little bit of welding we had the engine sitting nicely in the engine compartment. I scoped some ideas from him, search for S-10 and you might find his stuff! These plates differ in the offset between manufacturers. Standard ceramic finish is polished silver, contact us for bare steel and black ceramic coated pricing. Clark The only thing that changed was the body style.
