I tried resetting with a toothpick, switching R and L sticks and back, and also opening and cleaning with cotton and alcohol, but nothing fixed the problem. Just means it's time to replace the stick or the whole controller if you're not willing do the maintenance yourself. Now pull the thumbstick out.
