Second City veteran Nia Vardalos expanded her one-woman show about life as a not-so-traditional daughter in a very traditional Greek-American family into a feature-length film, and the result is a rare delight: A romantic comedy that's both deeply romantic and very funny. Some new release movies become unavailable for downloading for a limited time due to licensing restrictions. She is getting ready to graduate high school and Toula and Ian are experiencing marital issues. Toula isn't interested in leaving the country to find a man, but since she works in the family business -- a Greek restaurant in Chicago called Dancing Zorba's -- she has to hear about it whether she likes it or not. This bothers Toula a bit, but not half as much as it distresses her mother Lainie Kazan and father Michael Constantine , who want to send her to Greece in hopes of finding a husband in the old country. Director Kirk Jones Nanny McPhee, Waking Ned Devine stays true to the spirit of the Vardalos script and legacy, and much of the movie plays like one big inside joke for fans of the original.
On top of that, Toula must contend with aging parents and the endless needs of cousins and friends. Schoolteacher Ian Miller John Corbett is seemingly perfect -- he's tall, handsome, smart, good-natured, and soon in love with Toula -- except for two little things: he's not Greek, and he's a vegetarian, both of which horrify Toula's family. But for adults, I'd recommend this movie. Definitely not what I want to see with my 12 year-old daughter! Still working in her parents' Greek restaurant, Toula Portokalos' daughter, Paris, is growing up. Given the Hollywood proliferation of sequels, re-makes and re-imaginings, the only thing surprising here is that it took so long for Wedding number 2. This is just a feel good movie assuming you don't have anything against Greek people or their culture.
Nostalgia and familiarity are the keys here, and there is no reason to be overly-critical of a movie that is so pleasant and light-hearted. This is a great comedy about weddings and the insanity surrounding the preparations for these festive events that will appeal to just about any culture. This is definitely a must see for some really great laughs. Well, things were certainly shaken up a lot and we appreciate that. Plus, let's throw in the Greek culture to shake things up a bit. With that title, we know we are in for another Greek wedding.
Most of us can identify with how wonderful the family dynamics work in it. Not only has their relationship lost some of its spark, but they're also dealing with a rebellious teenage daughter who clashes with Greek traditions. There are some cringe-worthy kissing scenes that will get the family all embarrassed. And yes, that is the only surprise. Windex make an appearance in each of the three acts, and we get a shot of decorated Bundt cakes, some exaggerated make-up and hair styles, and a steady stream of family members who just can't help their propensity for being loud and up in everyone's business.
Parenting and marriage is becoming tougher and tougher for Toula Nia Vardalos and her husband Ian. This enables you to watch the video without an Internet connection. I mean, what culture hasn't experienced this kind of craziness in one way or another? I'll readily admit that, despite my leanings toward more serious film fare, I was a huge fan of the 2002 surprise mega-hit. I think a lot of people can relate to the 'ugly duckling ' story and it's fun and poignant watching Toula blossom. Toula Vardalos is a Greek-American woman who is in her early thirties and single, with no immediate prospects of changing that status any time soon. The movie was refreshing and observational, with commentary on proud cultures and helicopter parenting โ but mostly it was funny.
To her very pleasant surprise, she once again encounters the handsome stranger, who soon asks her out on a date. Family is so important, and when you have one that loves you, you've struck gold. When Toula's parents find out they were never officially married, another wedding is in the works. I can't remember which group I'm thinking of. It seems Gus Michael Constantine and Maria Lainie Kazan have been living in sin for 50 years โ all because the priest never signed the marriage certificate.
The setting, the characters and the jokes all familiar yet still pleasant and easy to watch. We are introduced to Toula, aGreek woman who grows up in an Orthodox Greek family. I knew it would be cute, but honestly, I had my reservations about whether or not it could be truly interesting since the plot presented in the trailers wasn't too elaborate. So apparently watching this movie every few years on cable is no longer an option for my wife. Can this big, fat, Greek event help to bring the family together? John Corbett is the most handsome I've seen him since Sex in the City. It fits like a warm blanket โ comfortable and familiar. I absolutely loved this movie!!! I was a fan of the first movie and couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the trailer for the sequel.
And that just adds to the humor I find as I watch it. Also, I saw a commercial for the sequel to this film and it looked like everyone is still alive and kicking, so you know, bonus. And there are some sexual innuendos. Vardalos plays Toula, the frumpy 30-year-old daughter of Gus Portokalos Michael Constantine ,. It's an hysterical movie about closing cultural gaps simply by being human. ยป Greetings again from the darkness.
Still unmarried at 30 years old, she works at Dancing Zorba's, the Greek restaurant owned by her parents, Gus Michael Constantine and Maria Lainie Kazan.
