The air filter was also clean, checked that today when i was doing an oil change. It's characteristic for the 4L60E to shift hard between 1 and 2. I've done this a few times and it would take me 4-5 hours plus the time to deal with any surprises. Just ask for a rebuild? After he did that, she shifted even better! It seems to want to stay in 1st too long and then when it finally decides to shift it bangs into second almost feels like a shift kit. Our Suburban with the tow package came so equipped and it was a welcome surprise to have it. Ask if they can get me a rebuild and put some stuff in it? The 4L60E isn't exactly a stout unit from the factory. Is this normal for a shift kit, and perhaps a servo upgrade? I hope my comments are useful to tpunk.
It threw a code once every blue moon, 1860 or 1870. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break. No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. All fluid pumped out through the vent tube: Plugged cooler line. Eventually it stops working right and it makes it do all sorts of funny things.
If not, this must be replaced. I got fed up and paid Dan Maslic to disable Passlock in my firmware. Has anyone else had this issue repaired? Don't want to be just cruisin the main drag, and at every intersection be snapping my neck, just at a normle take off now, a full throttle take off is different, but that's a different story. My tranny had the same issue when it was stock. All gears seems to work. If accessible, remove the servo and replace its gaskets.
Ask me how I know. I'm not sure if he cleared my adaptive shift tables or what, but it's as if I were driving an Escalade. A soft sloppy shift allows the clutches to slip and wear is created. So my question is, while getting a reman'ed, or rebuilt tranny, what should I request for it? Reassemble with the correct gaskets; check the codes on your old gasket. Any mistake here and you can ruin the internal parts!!! That can be multiple things.
Shift suddenly become very hard. The other gaggle of parts from the new planetary, to the five sprocket sun gear, hardened seperator plates, and the 9 pack clutches make up the rest of it. You do not have to drop the transmisson to have the valvebody fix completed - a knowledgeable shop can likely do it, but ask them before dropping it off if you are not doing it yourself. I did a lot of research on these mods and I know where to get useful diagrams as well as describing the processes in detail if anyone's interested. Other years may be able to be modified to work, but it would be such a job that rebuilding your current trans would be a better … option.
We have some real gurus on here, I'll see if I can chase one over to take a look at this thread to see what they think. Rear of transmission needs to be fixed. . I checked the trans out with all the road test and scanner and decided to go for the pull and put it back on the bench. Truck runs a thousand times better than it ever has now.
This being said, like any transmission, heat and lack of maintenance will kill them. Figure 3 With the valve in backwards, the land of the valve blocks off the accumulator causing a harsh 1-2 shift. Trucks tend to have some various curves for those tables. Later on I decided to rebuild the tranny as I had it out of the truck again. Sounds like your truck may have the stock trans temp readout option. So I'm figuring I'm going to have to have my transmission replaced which would happen in a few years anyways, so might as well get it done now.
I am studying and measuring three valve bodies this week - a brand new one and two used ones. I had trouble getting it in at first and started getting really worried, but it finally slid in. As Rick stated above, getting your shifting issue resolved may not involve the transmission at all. If you can afford Gilbert's advice, follow it because he is right. I have a 93 stepside with 4. I continue trying to help people get a bit more life out of their trans. Hey all, Sorry for this noobish post.
So now I just need to figure out what to put in the tranny, or whether I should just go crying to mom and dad to pay for a generic reman from the local tranny shop. Sometimes you'll see wear on the walls, scuffing etc. I put the scanner into the graphing mode so that I could capture and record the pressure control readings during the up-shift through the gears. Feels like 2 whole seconds! I also got a vette servo but more because it came with the new servo cover seal which is easy to break when opening it up to install the upgrades. Removing the harness can break wires or insulation.
The problem was found when we removed valve. It was not setting any codes and from what the shop could tell everything with the vehicle and load sensors were working properly. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. I don't know if the transmission fluid has been replaced before need to do that soon. This is a relatively common issue with the 4L60E.
