It's almost like driving around on a magic carpet. So if he's right, my comments about pulley tension are cobblers!!! It will feel fine and then get stiff and feel fine again. I was able to drain it via the small diameter pressure line at the reservoir. I had restarted many times but the steering wheel was stuck, and required lot of strength to turn just a little. Thereafter, with the steering still not working, the car was towed to the dealer meade Lexus of southfield michigan. Steering is a little stiffer and slightly locks in place while driving. I was scared to drive this car now because it could cause a serious accident if it happened while driving.
When I turn the steering wheel there are spots where it feels as if it has no power steering. I have received a recall notice for an acceleration issue, and was instructed to remove my floor mat. There's a post on clublexus. Even after paying out of pocket for the repair, I'm scared out of my mind to allow my wife and kids back in that car. This has nearly caused me to rear end other cars on several occasions. I would think that they would use the same fluid in both locations unless there was some compatibly issue.
I tried shutting down and restarting many times but the wheel was stuck, and required enormous amount of power to turn ever so slightly. Owner believes this Is an exorbitant amount, and represents about 20 - 25% of the vehicle value. I had 33,000 miles on the car, nearly all freeway. If it were normal wheel feedback I would think a tie rod end is completely broken or the tires were severely under inflated. I almost slammed into a car in the lane next to me.
Owner has been unsuccessful in getting the Lexus dealership or manufacturer to provide relief to the owner to make the necessary repairs. I was driving on the freeway and suddenly heard a loud thumping which I assumed was the tires because as I slowed, the noise slowed and then stopped. By the way, how did they get the car off the boat if the steering didn't work? The current mileage was 35000. I will try my local garages to see if they can make anything of it. Probably shouldn't have required that given the fact it worked ok for a while after you made the change, but you never know. This all seems very odd to me.
I then showed them the remaining tread on the tires and their excuse was that the alignment must be off and causing that part of the tire to wear quicker. Afterwards, my steering is a good as new. I put the hose in the collection bottle and had my wife start the engine and turn the wheels. I was forced to buy replacement tires at my expense. The car drives smooth but it has those sudden steering jerks that really concern me.
They stated that the tires were not drivable which was obvious but that it was just normal wear-and-tear. I have left it for now because it's not too bad and to be honest has a sort of sporty vibe to it. I've read posts where drivers have had power steering failures. It was quite simple but somewhat messy. I think the electric is only to add the advantage to the power steering. A common place for that is the steering rack end seals. Car does this when its hot or cold.
The dealer checked the car out and held if for several days. I was backing out of a parking space and the steering lost power and locked 11I could not drive my car. There was no physical leaks on the bottom, and the dealer also confirmed that but said it was an internal leak, you would not see it on the floor. He is now looking for the aftermarket part to replace it. Thinking about visiting the dealer again tomorrow now. You can check the continuity of the solenoid coil with an ohmmeter, it should be 6 to 11-ohms.
It was literally impossible to turn the wheel when the steering went out. Went to Lexus Croydon and paid the 95 quid diagnosis fee. However I did plenty of research on this and the three components that could have failed are: - Power steering ecu - Power steering motor - Power steering rack The first two are not very expensive to replace. This all seems very odd to me. Step 3 - Rotate steering wheel Start the car and turn the steering wheel left and right a few times to get the new fluid flowing through the system. It doesn't matter if I'm moving or sitting still. Steering wheel sticks when turning to the right.
No problems detected , sent vehicle home. The car was towed to the Lexus dealer. Their 'repair' was to replace the car's power steering ecu. I can understand that older high mileage cars sometimes need repair, but the steering system should never fail. They rejected my demand that they replace the tires on grounds that the car had a design defect. I went to the Lexus dealership in glendale, ca, and informed the service department of my belief and showed them the tires. I would post the link it but they are down at the moment.
