I would have bought the stick but my wife can't drive a stick. The fuel economy is not what I'd expect from a tiny car. Has a self adjusting timing chain and not a timing belt so that is saving you 500 to 600 every 60k that you have to change on most imports. Hard plastics are plentiful, but that is to be expected. The ride is nice and smooth. Prices do not include manufacturer's destination and delivery charges. People complain its slow obviously the don't know how to shift and double clucth. Been driving it for a week now and am very happy with my choice. If you often have back seat passengers this might not be the right car for you.
The 2's base features are what other compact cars make you pay for. The 4 cylinder made seemed to wine at higher highway speeds - but the radio automatically can adjust the volume to over come. I had an Eclipse before and going from a v6 to this is noticeable. The Mazda2 is everything and more! But we were quick to realize that the Mazda2's main strength is driving fun. I am surprised how well it has retained value.
