Replaced the following items twice each over the course of my ownership. The 4-cylinder now lists a horsepower rating of 114 and the V6 has four fewer horses, for a total of 160. The 4-cylinder likewise delivers decent power with the manual, but as expected, turns sluggish when paired with the automatic. I'm going to have a mechanic diagnose the sound and hopefully it will be the strut bearings. Don't Know Review Date: 25th April, 2006 Faults: Distributor died at 120000kms, bought full Mazda replacement at exorbitant cost to my hip pocket, only for it to fail again 2 years later at 180000kms.
General Comments: The routine maintenance can be expensive, but you can do most of it yourself and cheaper. I have never owned such a powerful car. While we prefer the V6, be aware that the 4-cylinder engine does have adequate performance and better fuel economy. This thing is a hoot to drive on twisty roads! I was recommended to use Red Line Synthetic 75w-90 or Mazda's own lube. I found that the thermostat I removed from my vehicle was the original from Mazda.
Yes Review Date: 14th August, 2001 Faults: Head light burned out. Even being 13 years old the body has no visable rust. Model year 1993 Year of manufacture 1993 First year of ownership 2006 Most recent year of ownership 2006 Engine and transmission 2. This was not only something that needs to regularly be replaced. The reason it's not so fantastic any longer is most probably because of the fact that to get anything fixed on it, it costs and arm and a leg, and every time something's done the car handles or performs less like it did when I bought it. It's not so fantastic any longer, but it's still a lot better than most other cars out there in the new car market today.
Something that really sold me on this car, along with the timeless styling, were the seats! New V rated tires have been installed and I've had the steering clunk repaired- the cause being worn out strut bearings. Steering responsiveness and precision was among the notable changes brought about by the system. The airbag diagnostic circuit replaced. Bought a modified replacement from a local manufacturer. Base models got a modest 2.
It's been to the moon and back, I've been everywhere with that car since I bought it after my first car which was brand new suffered loss of brakes and caused an accident. Yes Review Date: 27th December, 2000. Year of manufacture 1993 First year of ownership 1998 Most recent year of ownership 2001 Engine and transmission 2. Handling is crisp and responsive, with little body roll in tight corners. This I replaced myself with minimal effort and cost.
At approximately 125,000 mile I had to replace both drive axles. In the process new front struts were put in Monroe Sensatracks and the car rides ever so much more smoothly and corners with aplomb. At approximately 110,000 miles the oil pressure-sending unit went out causing the vehicle to dump all four and a half quarts of oil on the freeway. Faults: My distributer went when I first bought and again at about 200,000 km water accumulates in the spare tire area and for some reason my trunk lock keeps breaking. Cheaping out and using regular 80w-90 hypoid oil results in poor shift quality and reduced syncro life. Year of manufacture 1993 First year of ownership 1997 Most recent year of ownership 2001 Engine and transmission 2. .
General Comments: It run's well, it's fast and looks great. Year of manufacture 1993 First year of ownership 2000 Most recent year of ownership 2001 Engine and transmission 2. It handles very well, but there is a little too much body roll. Idle air control valve cleaned, caused the car to stall. Yes Review Date: 26th January, 2001 Faults: Replaced the right control arm's bushings, the original spark plug wires, timing belt, and just the regular maintenances; mufflers, pipes, etc. Both engines were mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. This was very expensive although I did it myself.
Had an idle speed check and adjustment. A driver-side airbag was standard; antilock brakes optional. Had the air conditioning fixed, low and high pressure hose's replaced. The clutch is buttery sooth and once one gets used to the heavier shift linkage, quick, precise shifts can be done with ease. Rust has become apparent around the top of the front windscreen and near where the front suspension mounts onto the chassis.
Front windscreen is prone to cracks, and it generally doesn't take much work to crack it. Can be great on gas if you are not racing anyone and everyone. The cream leather interior and special gold pin striping were among the styling upgrades. Also, I've had the driver's leather seat repaired and the interior now looks pretty much mint. Model year 1993 Year of manufacture 1993 First year of ownership 2005 Most recent year of ownership 2006 Engine and transmission 2. It was a heck of a fun car to drive though.
