We found that footage, we found just tons of footage. Sure enough, we soon learned that Morgan Creek had cut the film down considerably for theatrical release, and or years I and millions of other horror fans have been hoping to see the longer cut, with seemingly no happy ending in sight. I was also moved by what was, not just another gruesome horror flick, but a fantastical love letter to outsiders and an allegory for intolerance. Boone pops one of the pills. Although the bonus disc is worth it just for the interview with the editor hired by the studio to make the theatrical cut.
When he tries halting the attack, he is beaten by Eigerman. And during the editing process we realized that what we were seeing were some of the reshoots. If the footage could not be found by those who had worked closest on it the same year it had been released, then what were the odds we'd be able to find anything 20 years on? So they shipped the stuff from the Mid-West all the way out here and, yeah, I mean it was over 600 boxes and each box had just a little film reel so we had to string all of those together so that we could run them through the equipment and. The film now will hopefully have a much stronger narrative drive and pacing than the previous cuts. We eagerly await the next chapter in this saga.
Decker insists that there is a danger there that needs to be stopped. It is, in every way, a different movie. Lori and Babette become psychically bonded. Meanwhile, Captain Eigerman wanders the underground remains where he stumbles upon the transformed Ashberry, who now desires revenge. Eigerman and the police detail their weaponry to Decker. Decker is now a very different character in my cut, much closer to the novella. It was apparently 36 hours of footage! I was shocked when he told me there wasn't a big enough audience for the film and that the answer to my request must be no. They bide their time, waiting for the dawning of a different day. Boone breaks free and rescues her anyway. With Kinski as his advocate, Boone is initiated into the Nightbreed and his wounds are healed.
Decker drugs Boone with disguised as and orders Boone to turn himself in. Rachel tells her about the various Nightbreed abilities and weaknesses. Are the cops good guys or bad guys? Overall, the Director's Cut is 28. Joyce allows Decker to interrogate Narcisse privately. Eigerman shares this desire, but Ashberry rejects Eigerman's offer, kills him, and starts his hunt for the Nightbreed.
We get a first indication of the later singing sequence. At home, Lori wonders where Boone is. Now, adding a whole bunch of new scenes means of course that I have to remove other scenes. Narcisse warns Lori about how Boone has changed. Lori learns that Boone is in the chamber of Baphomet, the baptizer who made Midian and called the Nightbreed there to save them from their enemies. Realizing that the gas station owner knows about the Nightbreed, Decker tortures him for information. There was a three hour version but that was what we got when we put the two rough cuts together. Eigerman angrily asks Decker what they are dealing with.
Boone spends more time with Decker, as well. Who knows, maybe one of these jerks will win the lottery. Seeking to understand why Boone left her, Lori investigates Midian.
