I see where everyone who owns a Silverado has this same problem with the clusters. I am making a complaint because I believe this is a safety issue and should be a full recall. With the engine running, enter the appropriate mileage and engine hours. However, because his vehicle was over 70,000 miles, he would have to repair it at his own expense. Okay, Im assuming it probably needs the cluster replaced. The contact called the dealer and they refused to inspect the vehicle for free.
The speedometer did not work it was reading 60 mph even when the vehicle was parked. I found that when I installed the heater control module things would act up. Probably what happened is the circuit board got too hot during the old solder removal causing damage to the board. We have a 2005 Silverado flex fuel. There has been several recalls on this truck and you bust your ass figuring out how to avoid fixing the problem instead of busting your ass to figure out a way to fix the problems,no wonder you needed a bail out. It is to the point where the radio now shut's off and the power lock's and window's don't work. Odometer went first than all other gauges following. The safety implications of unreliable gauges are many-fold, whether it is gathering too much downhill speed because of an incorrect speedometer, running out of gas while towing a loaded horse trailer down a steep slope because of an incorrect gauge, overheating the transmission or engine because of an incorrect temperature reading, etc. This speed has been recorded as anywhere from 5 to 50 mph high. Now you can pop the motors off the front of the board once all the old solder has been removed.
