The plug sealed the dipstick hole at the factory and when the tube is installed they shove the plug into the trans and leave it in there. There is no torque converter drain plug. Mark, I worked in foreign car parts from 1970-1989. Came with the gasket already installed on the neck, make sure and take the old gasket out of the transmission if it doesn't stay on the neck of the old filter when you pull it out. I could do all of the work on the 250 myself and didn't have to worry about absurd charges for a tranny fluid change.
How do the dealers do a flush? Never flush it with a machine anywhere. Always drop the pan and change the filter. It almost makes me wish I had gone with a standard tranny instead of the automatic. I have also never had a trans failure in any vehicle I own and typically keep my vehicles for 10+ years, with over 100k on the odometer. I am confident that I have virtually 100% new fluid. Will I get all the old fluid out or will some of it as in the torque converter just recurculate and not get flushed.
In regards to filters, oem is fine, but I typically use Wix. Of course all of my Chevy friends are busting me about owning a Ford. Just be sure that the old o-ring comes out with the old filter, mine stuck up in there when I pulled the old one out, but I checked before i put the new one in. Regards, Gordo Well Mark, thought I would throw it out there for your opinion. The pan has a magnet that will need to be cleaned off anyway. On a coolant flush, I follow a similar procedure.
Please call for customer service and availability at 1-877-866-8372 ex. I have a question on the tranny fluid change I hope you can help me with. When adding transmission fluid to your F-150, be sure to add it slowly as it will fill up quickly and is difficult to remove excess fluid if you overfill. I do mostly 2 lane highway driving with probably 15% of miles towing. Regards, Gordo Hi Mark, Here's what I have done on every vehicle auto trans that I have owned for 30 years.
Please call for customer service and availability at 1-877-866-8372 ex. You should be good to go. It's too bad there isn't some kind of a retro-fit available to cure this problem. I worked at a shop, and didn't like tranny flushes. I was afraid you would say it takes a special machine. Great filter, came with the rubber grommet. You haven't seen a torque wrench until you see the type used on what we called 'the Jesus nut' and really the only thing that keeps the rotorhead attached to the tranny shaft.
But Fords were mesh screens, and may still be, I don't know. Regards, Gordo Mark: Again, thank you for the response. Installing them after the engine is together requires removing the cylinder heads, or else taking out the rockers and pushrods and using adjustable-length pushrod tubes. Regards, Gordo Mark: I just finished having a conversation with a Ford certified mechanic and he presented the following to me. Not much else to know. Also works with my '02, and is a perfect fit for the 4R70W as well. I also have a 2008 F-150 Crew Cab short bed, automatic tranny with the 5.
And I can assure you, transmissions in a chopper were a little more complicated than any in a motor vehicle. Any help will be greatly appreciated in resolving this issue. Just a crazy thought, but wondering if it would work? Prices are set by market conditions. Heat is a killer on automatic trans fluid and when we lived in the desert area, I changed the trans fluid at the end of summer every year. Fits where it's suppose to and looks like the one that came off 06 grand marquis - seemed identical quality.
The dealer usually will not change the filter, find a mechanic who will if your not car savvy. Would the dealer have to reprogram or do a flash to my truck afterwords? I recommend you follow the severe use schedule if you want this truck to last a long time. Questions: How fast will the fluid com out of an unhooked cooler return line engine running? As I figure, I'd have to unhook the trans cooler return line and route it to a drain pan. Guess I'll just have to call around and find a shop that has one that heats the tranny fluid. I just have to say the new one shipped fast, and came exactly the same as the old filter and fit just as perfect.
