I had to be towed. You just have to buckle up and pay it. Update from Apr 24, 2018 : Well, I guess I should of checked the Nissan website before posting my review. I did this yesterday, took me about 10 minutes. Neither fob would open the car nor could i open with the button on the door handle so i used the manual key to get in.
They will tell you if the issue is the sterring lock we will fix it at no cost if it's not they don't super simple. They were pulling their fuses for the steering lock system. I've only had this car since the end of 2013. I just got my car back from the dealership and they fixed this issue at absolutely no cost to me. The Nissan Altima would not start. The car was unable to turn on.
The vehicle was not repaired. It looks like all of your collective efforts finally paid off. Although I found this unacceptable still it was a lot better. I went to leave to run errands and my car wouldn't start. I opted for cutting the wire. That could have been deadly. If the light comes on while the engine is stopped, it may not be possible to free the steering lock or to start the engine. The steering wheel wasn't completely locked until trying to start it several times. A defective part is a defective part. I'm sure I probably paid too much due to the other people breathing down my neck but hell I don't care. I bought it less than three weeks ago.
This could be a safety hazard that can be avoided. This video probably helped me the most however, I was not able to push the lock pin back enough. I'm not very car savy. I woke up early Sat morning and I found this thread, and yes it was the steering lock mechanism and the Nissan dealer fixed it in 2 hours no charge. I have spent hours researching this and trying to get Nissan to make this a recall and reimburse everyone. Google is not giving me much help because everyone that has the dash key light on is saying their car wont start. I can get it to go into the mode where the radio will work and the lights will come on and the doors will unlock but nothing from the ignition.
Finally vehicle refused to engage starter and whirring noise indicating steering lock is functional no longer happens. I told him I was not going to rest until I get Nissan to cover this and he basically told me he had the final say. So if everyone that comes into contact Please share I would appreciate it. I also noticed about the time the door lock actuator went out, the key light on the dash is on when I am driving the car. Luckily I got the repair done at a dealership so they had records.
