It's amazing how time and miles slip by between tuneups. If necessary I can provide additional info for the vehicle. Now it won't start at all. It has 60psi fuel pressure, and will start and run on a shot of either, so I'm assuming the injectors are not pulsing. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run.
Also if you don't have the right pressure it means your fuel pump is going out it just isn't dead yet. You could be way overdue for a tune up but you didn't post any mileage. I'll take that out tonight and have it tested. Thank you for your advice. Maybe something in the distributor broke. So if you have gas and fire, we're down to timing, right? You could also have a fuel pump intermittently seizing up.
Nothing should have been that hard. All fuses and wiring looks ok. The last time I did one was at 80,000 miles and now I have 170,000 miles. I have replaced the plugs and wires, ignition modular, coil and coil wire new battery, have 65 psi at the engine and fuel pump is coming on and my truck still won't crank. Wayne I just looked in my factory service manual for my 98 and it says with the key on, the fuel pressure should be 55-62 psi.
I put the new cap and rotary on and it started right up. Then I realized that I would be messing with wires that may or may not go to the air bag so I went ahead and bought a manual just to be safe. Now it is running on it's own. Yes I did change the inline fuel filter as well got it all donr for around 325 doin the work my self. Do you mean extended cranking time for the first start? My post: My vehicle suddenly quit, then ran again after sitting a few hours. It seems unlikely that a dirty filter would prevent pump operation.
I noticed that two of the wires going to the turn signal switch were pulled almost completely out. I had just did a complete tune up on my truck about 7-8 months ago and I didnt skimp on parts, so I dont think its a firing issue Thanks in advance for your help well my truck is still plugin away, still time delayed to start but she still starts and goes. Did the vortec 454 have the same injection spider as the vortec 350? Usually if you have an extended crank after a vehicle as been sitting like overnight it's due to the residual fuel pressure in the lines bleeding off, which in most cases is caused by a bad fuel regulator. I guess I'll replace the fuel filter in the morning and see if that's it. It has exploded views of just about every part of your truck you can think of. Unfortunatly with your truck it won't be much of a back yard mechanic fix. From: willybob To: rasmataz Posted: Sat Sep 22, 2007 10:05 pm Subject: 98 gmc k3500 non start, no fuel This has been posted on the general forum, but it seems you have answered some questions regarding jumpers and a Chevy Silverado, so here goes.
Today it didn't start, so the fuel pump is making nois so that is working, put a new fuel filter on, no help, so I put some gas in the throttle body and it started right up for 20 sec. The fuel pump seems to be working. Dan the fix, Is there only one injector? Any questions or comments, please reply. I am convinced it is starving for fuel. There is no web cam or video equipment connected to my computer. How do i test to see if my fuel pump is bad? Eventually I tracked down a little.
My truck started up no problems around 5 this afternoon i then drove 20 miles shut it off and went to start it again around 7 and it will turn over but wont start. Dan the fix, Is there only one injector? If no security light, you might have to pull the timing chain cover to check valve timing. It seems unlikely that a dirty filter would prevent pump operation. I have checked and rechecked all the fuses and they are good. The air filter looked pretty good keep in mind I put less than 500 miles annually on this vehicle.
Is there a common problem to look at first? Question is do you have the Heat on?? A quick trick that might get you out of trouble is to give the fuel tank a medium tap on the bottom as someone cranks it over. Could you help me resolve this problem? Can a fuel pressure regulator prevent all operation of the pump, given no fuel pressure? If the fuel pressure is less than 44 psi, the vehicle will be inoperable. . When I try to start it nothing works. You're not telling us much. The problem was a blocked converter.

I had to drive it about five or six weeks ago. Two weeks ago it wouldn't start after a rain and hasn't started since.
