Starting with the mastery of his or her native element, the Avatar learns to bend all four elements. Then, the Fire Nation launched a war against the other three nations. The Water tribe soon discovers that Aang is not only an Airbender--the extinct race no one has seen in a century--but also the long lost Avatar. The Earth Kingdom remains and fights a hopeless war against the Fire Nation. The Air Nomads were destroyed, the Air Temples ravished, and all airbender monks eradicated. Azula and her two friends Mai and Ty Lee pursue Team Avatar, who struggle to reach Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom capital, and tell the Earth King of the eclipse. When the Avatar dies, it reincarnates into the next nation in the cycle.
It is here that the village's last remaining waterbender Katara and her warrior brother Sokka rescue a strange 12-year-old boy named Aang who has been suspended in hibernation in an iceberg. Katara revives Aang with special spirit water from the North Pole, but his seventh chakra is blocked and therefore he cannot enter the Avatar State. Bending is a powerful form combining martial art and elemental magic. Throughout the ages, the countless incarnations of the Avatar have served to keep the four nations in harmony. The Avatar is the spirit of the world manifested in human form.
In a final confrontation, Zuko sides with his sister, who promises to restore his honor. The Water Tribes were raided and driven to the brink of extinction. Just as the world needed the Avatar the most, he mysteriously vanished. Now Katara and Sokka must safeguard the child Avatar in his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation. Zuko, with the help of his uncle, tries to come to terms with his troubled past and his obsession with capturing the Avatar.
Meanwhile, Zuko and Iroh, now fugitives from the Fire Nation, attempt to lead new lives in the Earth Kingdom. That bender is the Avatar. In the desolated South Pole, a lone Water tribe struggles to survive. Aang is lightning struck by Azula and is severely wounded. . Many believe the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads and the cycle is broken.
A hundred years later, the Fire Nation is near final victory in its ruthless war of world domination. Iroh helps Aang and Katara to escape after Zuko betrays him, and is imprisoned by the Dai Li for his actions. In each generation, only one bender is solely capable of controlling all four elements. . . . .
