This would be one of my first choices for metal though I would more than likely pair it with another Celestion speaker. You can also add some delay to it; this will enhance the effect. It was all super fizzy or sounded very washed out, etc. I think it's unfortunate that they decided to fragment all their products instead of just releasing one outstanding one. Save that group of effects and add the board to something else until you get what you want. Bias lacks punch while amplitube often seems better because it has it and is much warmer. This proves to be an amazing pair for metal. In my opinion, I prefer this over metal ambient tones.
You can replace the amp model to what you like and add any effect pedal you want into the chain and just click save as a preset. Bias is like that for me. You are right about the cabs, but it's the accurate pre-amp and power amp modelling as well. It just sounds more real to me in terms of sustain and natural note decay and dynamics. Some processors, plugins, simulators, sound great soloed out while others I find difficult to fit in a mix for whatever reason. This my personal opinion, of course. Mix and match as you please.
