John Hi Gary, I have been trying to get ubuntu to work for a few days. There is no grub screen on powering up. Other Internet instructions are a little out-of-date. The trouble is that once your computer has finished booting it will still go and do all of the things that it missed out on whilst booting to make it load faster but it will do it quietly in the background. So even if you install it this way, you won't lose your files in Windows, and you will get the option to boot into Ubuntu or Windows when you start your computer.
