This was our second time at McCoole's in the last 2 months and we have been very satisfied both visits. They have truly lost sight of that. While setting up before our guests arrived, two employees were having an argument in front of my wife and one of her bridesmaids. People for a show that night kept coming on and were noisy, and sat on couches and chairs on perimeter watching us. Wraps, Fish and Chips, and Portobello sandwich followed by an amazing Chocolate Chip Walnut Cheesecake. So we did last evening and we were extremely satisfied with both the service and the delicious food.
We had passed McCooles hundreds of time on our way to and from Quakertown and thought we have got to try this place sometime. This place is a continuous let down. McCoole's Red Lion Inn is a historic restaurant found right on the corner of Main Street in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. As other customers had reviewed, the Lobster Bisque soup was the best! The reason for the 3 stars is because of the service. McCoole's has been our favorite restaurant for several years now. After the reception the staff cleaned up and neatly placed our personal items together on a table, and we picked it up the next morning. The past few times we've been here, my husband and I have been very disappointed with the service and staff.
Rated This place continuously gets worse. We strive to offer the finest food at affordable prices, while maintaining the highest standards of excellence in customer service. Place is packed every week when I drive past so I think they are well deserved on five star rating. Gluten-free and low-fat are not one in the same, but this place serves them both. We met with Jan, the owner, about a year before our wedding date. The food was wonderful and so abundant we took home doggie bags. We had a reservation for 6.
The dishes offered on the menu are all created with locally grown ingredients and are antibiotic and hormone free. Will be back again for sure. The chicken was grilled on a flat grill and pressed so hard that the two flimsy pieces were maybe a quarter of an inch thick and dried out beyond belief. Upon complaining, the manager was combative with me telling me you can't get fresh tomatoes this time of year, as well as the chicken was still edible, even though over cooked and dried out. We enjoyed reading about the history of McCooles while looking through the menu the first page tells of its history and learned from a picture on the wall that Lassie the dog had eaten there! She was not friendly at all. This instance paired with the fact she is short with me as a patron in general caused me to change my otherwise good review. It was a bit noisy and made conversation difficult; me and my guest had to repeat ourselves often.
We had a child with us, and a kid's menu would have been appreciated, our 10-year-old could not fit her mouth around the huge burger! It took 20 minutes after our arrival to take drinks, 45 minutes later for food to arrive. At this point I was so done with this owners actions and attitude, I signed the bill, and made my own discount by stiffing any tip. It has great food and an eclectic atmosphere, which matches our personalities. My family and I went last night, against my wishes, but stayed optimistic. It's not many places that have someone come to your table to see that your having a good time and that's happened every time I've been there. We were at a high table and were crowed in the corner. You need to stop by McCooles.
A generous helping of hickory smoked mushrooms on top added extra depth to the flavor. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here. The owner of this restaurant seriously needs to be trained in Hospitality, and Listening skills, and mostly needs an attitude adjustment. The burger itself was an average burger but it was cooked perfectly and the toppings were on point. Find time to peruse the wine list here? Tried to ask for manager twice, waited 15 mins both times with no response. My daughters dish was equally disgusting. We live in the area.
My family members were starving so they didn't send the cold food back. This business might not have an official storefront, or it might move to multiple locations throughout the day. The side of coleslaw was a bit bland, but still fresh and crunchy. The prime rib and the sesame encrusted yellowfin tuna were both perfectly cooked to medium rare. Love the warm colonial atmosphere with stone walls, fire place, exposed beams and copper ceiling. Everything for the ceremony and reception was set up exactly the way we requested. When this restaurant first opened it was fabulous, however, it is slowly but surely going down hill.
I don't think you will be disappointed. However, you could have served us in a cave, and it would have been great because your staff and chef are superb. As a lover of historic buildings, the old inn didn't disappoint with its low ceilings, cozy table arrangements, and historic details. Upon complaining, the manager was combative with me telling me you can't get fresh tomatoes this time of year, as well as the chicken was still edible, even though over cooked and dried out. Give the restaurant a call to reserve your table ahead of time.
