The 1999 Super Duty was a separate model line with its own style and hardware underneath. In the mid-to-late 1970s, off-roading and camping were two red-hot trends. Although these machines were available with any of Dodge's small block V-8s, the most desirable Machos packed the top dog 440-cid big block V-8 housed in the sportiest short-bed body style. After 60 years in the trucking business, Ford's F-Series became the 1 seller in the United States in 1977. When it launched in 2003, this optional package became an instant hit.
The Golden Eagle was emblazoned with of course a giant eagle sticker on its hood. Although hardly a major event at the time, the Ford F-150 would eventually take over from the F-100 as Ford's base full-size pickup, and it would go on to become the best-selling vehicle in the United States. Special edition trucks in the 1990s didn't quite have the visual pop of their '70s and 80s predecessors. But one of the coolest packages Jeep offered was based on Jeep's half-ton full-size pickup, the J-10. A pinstripe option package was added midyear. The 22-inch-long extension was large enough to accommodate an optional forward-facing bench or side-facing jump seats.
These trucks were painted to match Stroppe's race trucks. Four-wheel drive came along in 1957 and would transform how America got around in inclement weather. And that means brawny, powerful and tough. Body-color racing mirrors, high-back bucket seats, and a 140-horsepower 302-cubic-inch V-8 engine were other basic features of this sportiest of the three Ranchero pickup truck models. This Ford F-100 Flareside shows the Free Wheeling stripe pattern. It would also mark the end of the Ranchero, whose sales had dropped off in recent years. Still hot today, Baja Broncos fueled the rise of the off-road scene in the 70s.

Instead of the ubiquitous 350-cubic-inch small-block V-8 that came in most 1500-series models, Chevy dropped in the 230-hp 454-cid V-8 from its heavy-duty trucks, which pumped 385 lb-ft of torque. Under that giant hood wasn't an equally giant V-8. Broncos with the Sport option package shown here featured bright trim inside and out, plus fancier upholstery.
